Zito/Mulder/Weaver

Just a Thought

Try to reunite Zito and Mulder, then sign Weaver.
Like I said, just a thought. Give Zito his money (maybe he'd be inclined to take $12/13.5 mil to play w/ Mulder again), and re-sign Mulder to an incentive-laden deal (as mentioned before, he may want to play w/ Barry, he also was quoted as saying he wanted to show STL what he could do).  Re-sign Weaver just as insurance, because lets face the reality of pitchers, not to be a Debbie Downer, but either Wells, Reyes, or Weaver will be a bust next season. Mulder has recently been reported as being courted by the D-Backs but they don't typically offer incentive-laden deals, and Zito is said to desire to play in a major-market team but STL's recent WS win and history may be enough to sway him.  As far as Weaver, he has to realize that STl/LaDunc more than likely saved his career. These are just thoughts, and who knows, maybe we'd have a little extra cash to throw at Gonzo for a year or 2. If you are all like me you will be eagerly anticipating Walts moves in the upcoming weeks. Sit tight CardinalCrazies, good moves are sure to come.

Yeah
I've been preaching that for awhile, but I'm not sure Walt's gonna float that way.

i agree
that would be a great plan . if mulder and zito wanted to be back together what a better place. when mulder is heathly he is about as good as zito. and mulder being ready by june gives wells or reyes to prove themself. they can use narveson as a extra starter in triple a. if payroll is a problem maybe move loop or juan e for salary relief. but i think if walt can go to maybe 105 million he can sign everybody and still get gonzo. the only bad thing about gonzo is he makes the lineup lefty heavy. because i assume he would start in lf and duncan and juan e. would share rf. maybe marrero could find his old magic. 1 role player that would be intersting is former redbird e. perez . he kills lefties. he is bad in of. but he is powerful

I'm not sure that Mulder is ever
going to be back in his Oakland form.  Even when he was healthy (supposedly) in 2004 the Ks were down and his groundball tendancies were increased.  Not to say that's a bad thing or that you can't be dominant that way (see Wang - NYY) but it's hard.  Mulder may never regain that old ace form.

I'm not sold on Zito as a ace.  He's durable and he has put up good ERA and IP totals but some of his peripherals (BB/9 and K/9) concern me a little.  Plus there's a lot of mileage on that arm for 6 seasons now.
