Just tallied Carpenter's career postseason numbers (granted, 2005 and 2006 only ;))

5 starts, 4 wins, 34 1/3 innings, 8 earned runs, 29 hits, 11 walks, 24 strikeouts.

I'll take it! ;) ;) ;)

I say 75-25
Reyes pitches in the LCS. Can't go with three men, especially with Carp having to pitch Game 4 of this series....Weaver is I guess in line to pitch Game 1 of the LCS (either him or Marquis w/ the current roster).

If it's not Weaver it'll be Reyes in Game 1. And we might just see the kid....at this point nothing would surprise me.

5 inn, 5 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 HR, 2 BB

Although he seems to be a different pitcher now. Maybe he can give us one more good one.

I'd let Reyes go Game 1
Carp Game 2.

Go Carp on 4 days rest, Reyes is the most rested pitcher we have.  Soup in Game 3 and Weaver in Game 4.

Does that sound crazy?

by Hardcore Legend on Oct 8, 2006 11:08 PM EDT reply actions

rotation
Reyes -full rest
Carp - 3 days rest
Suppan - full rest, at home
Weaver - full rest, at home
Carp - 5 days rest
Suppan - 4 days rest

Is that how it would work out?

by Hardcore Legend on Oct 8, 2006 11:14 PM EDT up reply actions

what about
Weaver--away
Supp--away
Carp
Reyes
Weaver
Supp--away
Carp--away
?

I think everybody pitches on regular rest this way....not optimal obviously but TLR's strategy was to sweep the Padres, and it didn't quite work, Carp had to go tonight....

by nota bene on Oct 8, 2006 11:20 PM EDT up reply actions

...but I'd bet he wants Soup to pitch at home, no?

by Hardcore Legend on Oct 8, 2006 11:22 PM EDT up reply actions

My LCS Rotation
This looks like fun, I'll give it a shot.

Soup
Weaver
Carp
Reyes
Soup
Weaver
Carp

This gives Weaver road starts (He pitches better away from Busch), Carp gets two, Soup gets two, and Not Marquis gets a start.  It works for me.

asdf
Carp will probably pitch Games 3 & 7

....which of course means that if the Cards win the LCS in 6.....

(disclaimer: note that I didn't actually say anything. I implied. Implications were made.)

So maybe it'd go like this....

1 Reyes--away
2 Weaver--away
3 Carp
4 Supp
5 Reyes
6 Weaver--away
7 Carp--away

I kinda like that....

by nota bene on Oct 8, 2006 11:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Going with the home/road splits
we could go:

game1 - Weaver (regular rest)
game2 - Reyes
game3 - Carp (regular rest)
game4 - Supp (extra rest)
game5 - Weaver (regular rest)
game6 - Reyes (extra rest (1 day))
game7 - Carp (regular rest)

Probably not TLR's first choice as it puts a lot on Reyes and Supp only gets one start.  Suppan could go in games 2 and 6 on regular rest also, but those are both away games.

Reyes has to be on the roster
I'm probably preaching to the choir here but we can't beat the Mets w/o some firepower from the staff.  Their offense is too good for us to have Weaver and Suppan go 4 times.

On another note, a couple of years ago vs. the Astros in the LCS we kept hoping we could get into their bullpen.  It had been vulnerable outside of Lidge.  They kept relying on 2 guys nobody had ever heard of and they kept getting us out.  Every time they pitched, we thought this was our opportunity and we never really got to them.  Thank god they had Miceli as well.  But Chad Qualls and Dan Wheeler were very good and have turned into pretty good relievers.  Tyler Johnson and Josh Kinney remind me a little of them.  Not much is expected but they have the ability and the more they pitch, the better they get.  Is there any reason to believe it can't continue?  If we're gonna be close in this series, we're gonna need something out of Johnson and Flores.

Here are some quotes. Got them off the news stories on the Mets team site.

"In mid-game, the prognosis on Floyd was day-to-day. By the end of the game, he was upgraded to Saturday-to-Wednesday, because that is when the Mets will resume play in the NL Championship Series opener against either St. Louis or San Diego."

and

"A club official announced in the fourth inning that Floyd had a "stretched left Achilles" and was listed as day-to-day. Two innings later, the Mets announced that an exam by the team physician showed that Floyd had strained the tendon, not torn it, and would be re-evaluated after the game."

this is from espn website:

While the team has listed Floyd as day-to-day with a strained Achilles tendon, his status for the NLCS, which begins Wednesday, is doubtful.

"I was thinking maybe I played my last game of the season," Floyd told the New York Daily News after the game.

"The good news is that I've got Monday and Tuesday to get treatment before we play again," Floyd said in his blog on MLB.com. "And I've already started treatment with ice. I'll be wearing one of those boots again. I don't know, maybe it'll get better in two days. If it doesn't, I'll deal with it. Someone already suggested to me that I could be the DH if we get into the World Series."

by Scarlet the Cardinal on Oct 8, 2006 11:35 PM EDT up reply actions

they all have the potential
to get shelled by that lineup.  Delgado is hitting .500 for his career vs. Weaver!  He hit 2 HR's off him this year.  If you remember that game, it was the one Weaver had a big lead, Pujols hit 2 bombs -- a slam and a 3 runner, and we lost.

Only Reyes has the potential to dominate...same downside, much more upside.

by chuckb on Oct 8, 2006 11:38 PM EDT up reply actions

the only pitcher who probably won't get shelled
is Carp.  He has the stuff and command to dominate.  After that, our entire rotation could get shelled.  Marquis, Weaver and to a lesser extend Suppan are not that great.  No one has the stuff to blow pitches by hitters except for Reyes.  It's a risk you take imo.  it has the highest reward.

This is my pick for a rotation
if I have my math correct:

Reyes -full rest
Carp - 3 days rest
Suppan - full rest, at home
Weaver - full rest, at home
Carp - 5 days rest
Suppan - 4 days rest

by Hardcore Legend on Oct 8, 2006 11:36 PM EDT up reply actions

Plus..
Carp pitching 2 and 5 only gets 3 days rest instead of full rest...
  Thurs. - game 2
  Friday - travel/rest
  Saturday - game 3/rest
  Sunday - game 4/rest
  Monday - game 5

Holy CRAP
I was going to have to sell a kidney to get a ticket if my other team (the A's) had to play the Yanks in the ALCS. (I'm in New York). I thought I was safe when they got Detroit instead. But, well, naturally, I just realized that the Cards are going to be playing the Mets now. And I have a chance to make it downtown for a game at Shea.

I wonder how much the black market pays for kidneys. I may need to get there by hook or by crook in all my Redbird red.

I've bought a lot of tix on Craigslist. Not sure how much they will be but I usually always find someone offering at a decent price.

Also, I'd be totally in for any Redbird-watching fest... as long as it's at night. I have class that would preclude me from day games, and I can't cut them even for my beloved Cards.

Rolen
in Tony's comments, he said he thought that Rolen would be able to play if he could get treatment.  That treatment, I would have to believe is a cortisone shot.

The problem with that is that it can weaken tendons, but does help heal, give strength and clear scar tissue.  I'm not sure how long it lasts, but I thought I heard once that you can't get more than 1 every couple days...so perhaps they were holding Rolen off from getting 1 until Tuesday or Wednesday so that is has maximum effect.

best thing about tonight
I just knew they were going to win....the Cards are one of those teams that has Mystique sometimes....Pujols has it in spades, and some of the other guys (Carp, Molina, Edmonds, Eckstein, and now apparently Wainwright has discovered where they stash it underneath the stadium) have it occasionally too.

You know, the Yankees, Notre Dame, the Packers (didn't have it today though), the Red Wings, the Lakers....sometimes the Cards tap it into it and they had a shitload of it in 04-05....they seemed invincible both years and choked (especially 04, on both counts).

This year they have definitely been vincible (mostly because of injuries IMHO, although that hasn't been the narrative all year) but now all of a sudden they've gotten Eck and Ed back and gotten a lift.

The starters and the bullpen suddenly got their act together; AW has stepped up, Weaver has stepped up, Johnson, Kinney, and even Flores have stepped up, Suppan has gone back to being Suppan, Looper has been used sparingly, and Marquis' ass is planted on the bench where it belongs.

Even TLR seems to have improved his, er, decision-making, for lack of a better term.

But in that 6th inning, the momentum swing was palpable. All of a sudden the Cards exploded with small ball (and the 2B by His Breakfastness). Eck laid down that perfect bunt on the first pitch....it was like a freaking merry-go-round. Before that I had felt like the Cards would break through, it was just a matter of when....anybody else get that feeling?

You have to purchase the postseason package...
in order to listen to game and replays on MLB.com.

Also, there's no download of audio, only video.

There are software programs that you can use to record the streaming audio (Audacity is one).

However, I would just wait a few days. It might show up somewhere. KTRS or STLToday may have an audio clip available on their website.

This shirt really annoys me
I mean, I love the design and I'm going to buy it, but MLB HAS to know that the Cardinals faithful wear RED to the ballpark every outing.  So why would they sell a 'Navy Blue' Playoffs hoody?

It took about 30 minutes for Zubin to dismiss the Cards' chances in the NLCS. I say we have a better chance than we did last year.
