this is unbelievable.

Are we in a hurry?
Gotta catch a red-eye to New York or what?

by Hardcore Legend on Oct 8, 2006 9:44 PM EDT reply actions

Should have used Orbitz.
Then we could have Wink Martindale change our reservations.

WOW
Carp must be pissed...

by El Hombre on Oct 8, 2006 9:44 PM EDT reply actions

Everyone should be pissed
these are some of the most futile at-bats I've seen in awhile.

by ryanisforever on Oct 8, 2006 9:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Seriously
someone in that dugout needs to scream at the batters to show some goddamn patience.  If for no other reason than to let Carp get a few minutes off the mound.

by stlmapman on Oct 8, 2006 9:45 PM EDT reply actions

No wonder Joe Sheehan wanted to watch the Cards
lose. Who wants to see five guys take a grand total of SIX pitches?

by ryanisforever on Oct 8, 2006 9:46 PM EDT reply actions

I think I figured it out...
...they want to string Williams along until the 9th, then have Rolen PH a homerun off of Hoffman to win the NLDS.

by Hardcore Legend on Oct 8, 2006 9:46 PM EDT reply actions

Dammit
I hate Josh Bard. I hate the Red Sox for trading him for Doug Effing Mirabelli.

by ryanisforever on Oct 8, 2006 9:47 PM EDT reply actions

Carp's in trouble again
Not a single strike thrown yet

by ryanisforever on Oct 8, 2006 9:48 PM EDT reply actions

This is his 3rd inning to pitch....
...without a chance to sit down. Someone needs to take charge and get in some batter's faces and scream some sense into them.

by Ignatius J Reilly on Oct 8, 2006 9:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Well....Albert and Jimmy
will take pitches.  Either that or Jimmy will swing through a curve, which will be just like a taken pitch.

by Hardcore Legend on Oct 8, 2006 9:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Nice K
but I still have a bad feeling about this inning.

The fervor of this stadium
If next inning, Albert hits a homerun: they'll get loud and cheer him around the bases.

If next inning, Jimmy hits a homerun: they'll blow their tops, go absolutely nuts and will be chanting into the next AB.

Something about Jimmy HRs gets the Cardinals faithful more fired up than any other player.

by Hardcore Legend on Oct 8, 2006 9:52 PM EDT reply actions

So is that!

by player2bnamedl8r on Oct 8, 2006 9:52 PM EDT reply actions

First pitch swinging ...
Maybe their logic is that the straighest pitch they're going to see against Woody is likely 0-0.  We don't hit the soft-tossers well.

Carpenter has reached his "dial-it-up-for-outs" phase.  I don't see him finishing the 7th.

It's bad luck to be superstitious.

it's amazing...
... carp is through 6 with (basically) one pitch.

TLR is always talking about pitchers "battling" and "competing". i haven't seen a better example all year.

I'm going to take every Edmonds AB from here on

by Hardcore Legend on Oct 8, 2006 9:55 PM EDT reply actions

That was a bad inning for Carpenter
16 pitches...up to 95. He's reaching the end, and we have to trust a bullpen that is bound to self-destruct at any time..

by ryanisforever on Oct 8, 2006 9:56 PM EDT reply actions

OK... 95 Pitches..
If you're Larussa, whats your next move?

Mine, Let Carp start the 7th. If anyone gets on go to Thompson.. They have a string of leftys coming up  and i dont want to see TJ or Flroes.. Brad is pretty solid against leftys.

The Thing
about the Padres is:  when Brenneman says "looking ahead to the 8th inning, it'll be Brian Giles, Adrian Gonzalez and Josh Bard..." and you realize that those are their 2, 3 & 4 guys, it just doesn't strike fear into you.  (Now, please don't do anything RASH, Brian, Adrian and Josh!)

If they get a real bopper in the middle there, they could be scary, what with their pitching and all...

I don't like it
Gonzo and Bard are threats.

by ryanisforever on Oct 8, 2006 10:30 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm not
saying they aren't fine players; but when you say "Pujols/Edmonds/Healthy Rolen" I think it suggests something more formidable.  At least historically.

I think Gonzalez and Bard WILL be very, very good, and potentially scary.  It's all relative, as my relatives would say...

Those Padres are a tough team
They played a great series, and I'm glad this one is over.

Agreed. That was a hell of a 4 game series.

Is it just me?
Or does every series end on a 3 Unassisted, or 1-3?
Cormier? Really? Who new?

Oh, and I like seeing Chris Young cry
I don't like him. He should be in Texas.

I can't believe we made it through this series
and I'm even stunned that I have a slight bit of faith that maybe, just maybe our bats come out slug the Mets and their delapitated pitching staff and steal that series.

by Hardcore Legend on Oct 8, 2006 11:05 PM EDT reply actions

Play that series
like they did this one, and we'll be in it to the end.
The cat is fine, thank you.

It's gonna be a slaughter
I hold no hope for the next round.

a slaughter?
even with the Mets pitching woes? I think it will be closer than you think. The Mets should probably win this but I think the Cards can make it interesting.
