Daily Farm Report - 8/29/13

A daily recap of the minor league players in the Cardinals farm system.

Memphis 2, New Orleans 1

  • Jamie Romak was 2-for-4 with a double.
  • Audry Perez was 1-for-3 with a walk.
  • Memphis tallied 6 hits and 4 walks in the game.
  • An impressive start from Carlos Martinez who struck out 9 in 7 innings of work. He allowed just a solo home run among 5 hits and a walk. The Cardinals usage of Martinez this year has been nothing short of baffling. Constant role changes, brief stints in St. Louis. It's the kind of handling that makes for awful optics if a prospect gets hurt.
  • Lee Stoppelman, appearing in his first AAA game, walked 1, struck out 1 and allowed a hit but kept New Orleans off the board in his inning of work.
  • Jorge Rondon picked up the save with a 1 strikeout inning.

Springfield 4, Arkansas 6

  • James Ramsey was 0-for-3 but walked twice.
  • Both Adam Melker and Xavier Scruggs were 1-for-5 but, more importantly, they both struck out 4 times.
  • Stephen Piscotty and Cody Stanley were both 2-for-5 with a double.
  • Luis Mateo was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.
  • Anthony Ferrara had the start with 5 runs allowed in 5 innings of work. He struck out 5 and walked 5 allowing 4 hits. Given Ferrara's thoroughly tepid performance over the last few seasons, I'm surprised he hasn't been forced to the bullpen yet.
  • Dean Kiekhefer pitched a 1 hit, scoreless 8th.

Palm Beach 0, Charlotte 1

  • Charlie Tilson was 2-for-4 with a triple.
  • Palm Beach walked 4 times and had 4 singles besides Tilson's triple.
  • Jacob Wilson was 0-for-2 with a pair of walks.
  • Anthony Garcia was 1-for-2 with a walk.
  • Ryan Sherriff held Charlotte to just an unearned run over 7.2 innings. He allowed 5 hits and struck out 2.

Peoria 2, Clinton 3

  • Nick Martini was 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles.
  • Jordan Walton was 2-for-4.
  • Mike Mayers was roughed up for 7 hits and 3 runs in 3.2 innings. He walked 1 and struck out 1.
  • Joseph Scanio allowed 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 2 across 4.1 innings.
  • Dixon Llorens continues to be a dominant force with a perfect 9th striking out the side. That's 69 strikeouts in 46 innings for Llorens.

State College 9, Jamestown 8

  • Jimmy Bosco, CF/RF, was 3-for-5 with a double and a walk.
  • Cesar Valera, SS, was 3-for-4 with a pair of walks.
  • Brett Wiley, 2B, was 3-for-4 with a home run.
  • Ronald Castillo and Carson Kelly were both 1-for-5 with a home run.
  • Alex de Leon, 1B, was 1-for-3 with a double and a pair of walks.
  • Kevin Herget allowed 4 hits in 2 innings. He held Jamestown scoreless while walking 1 and striking out 1.
  • Nick Petree was battered for 4 runs in 5.2 innings on 8 hits. He walked 2 and struck out 3.
  • Jeff Rauh took a real beating to end the game allowing 4 runs in 1.1 innings. He walked 1 and was tagged for 5 hits.

Johnson City 3, Burlington 6

  • Kenneth Peoples-Walls was 2-for-3.
  • JC had just 5 hits and 1 walk.
  • Alexander Reyes struck out 6 in 5 innings. He was tagged for 3 runs on 8 hits while walking 2. Reyes has been getting a little hype towards the end of the year. He's just turned 19 and has 68 strikeouts against 28 walks in 58 innings.
  • Luis Perdomo threw 2 perfect frames.

State College 8, Jamestown 2 (7 innings)

  • Steve Ramos, CF, was 2-for-4.
  • Alex de Leon, C, was 2-for-2 with a home run.
  • Jimmy Bosco, RF/LF, was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles.
  • Andrew Pierce pitched 6 innings allowing just an unearned run. He struck out 5 and allowed 1 hit.
  • Kyle Webb pitched the 7th allowing 1 run on 2 hits. He struck out 1.
