Double-A: Arkansas 4 -- Springfield 0
- Harrison Bader, CF, 0-for-3, BB, 2 Ks
- Brayan Pena, DH, 0-for-3, BB
- Mike Ohlman, 1B-C, 0-for-3, K
- Carson Kelly, C, 0-for-1
- Juan Herrera, SS, 0-for-3
- Seth Maness, IP
Not much to say about this game -- the team managed just three hits and two walks. They had just one extra base hit, from Mason Katz who pinch hit a double for Kelly in the 5th. Not sure why Kelly was subbed out halfway into the game.
The team was shut down over seven IP by Jordan Kipper, a former 9th rounder in the Angels organization. He's not a highly rated prospect, but he was named "Pitcher of the Week" on May 22nd this year.
Pena and Maness are both on rehab assignments.
Class A Advanced: Daytona 8 -- Palm Beach 0
- Darren Seferina, 2B, 1-for-4, K
- Orlando Olivera, RF, 2-for-4, 2B
Again, nothing particularly exciting about a Cardinals affiliate getting blown away. The primary culprit for the shut out was Tyler Mahle. Mahle isn't a highly touted prospect either, but Red Reporter ranked him 16th in their organization, and Baseball America named him a Rookie All-Star in 2014, and a Low Class-A All-Star in 2015.
Single A: Burlington 4 -- Peoria 2
- Magneuris Sierra, CF, 1-for-5, K
- Edmundo Sosa, SS, 2-for-4, 2B, SB
- R.J. Dennard, 1B, 2-for-4, HR, 2 Ks, R, 2 RBI
- Vaughn Bryan, LF, 1-for-4, K, CS
Given the performance of the farm last night, I'm going to complete the trifecta of profiles of opponent starters. Joe Gatto is a 2nd round pick by the Angels, easily the highest draft slot of these three, and was listed as the organization's 6th best prospect by MiLB.com. That said, he hasn't been great this year, and even after striking out seven Chiefs without walking even one, his ERA for 2016 remains just north of 7.00.
