Peoria at Kane County 8-31-14

Went to the Chiefs game yesterday. Didn't expect traffic for an A league game in Chicago's suburbs so arrived late and left early when my kids were ready to be done.

A few caveats. I am not a scout, so what I can tell you about Perdomo's delivery was that it was right handed. This was my first Midwest league game so I don't really have a baseline for quality of play (I have seen several different Independent league teams play which is presumably close to being similar). It certainly wasn't as bad as the collegiate wooden bat summer league game I saw a few years back, but I was reminded at a couple points of my daughters pony tail softball games, which isn't great for people trying to be paid to play baseball.

Players I was interested in seeing:

Carson Kelly: grounded into a 6-4-3 DP right before Perez's home run. Got an RBI single on a hit and run which if the hit and run wasn't on would probably have been a 6-4-3 dp instead. Then struck out. Didn't see 4th at bat, also an out though. Didn't hit either ball in play that solidly. Cougars stole 2 bases on him. Dunston stole 3rd in the 1st (his 27). Didn't get a great look at it (just finding my seat) but I thought he was out. Penlaver stole 2nd with Bray pitching (his 21st). Both throws were pretty good. Kelly had no chance on the second steal as it was a change up that missed low.

Vaughn Bryan struck out, grounded out. then walked and struck out in his last 2 at-bats.

CJ McElroy: 0-2 with a K and 2 walks.

Rowan Wick: 0-2 2 Ks and 2 walks...........which leads into first pony tail SB deja vue. The 2 teams combined for 10 walks and 19 strike outs.

The other was with the Cougars batting in the 4th. Perdomo was pulled for Bray with the score tied, the bases loaded and 1 out. Bray gets a ground ball to short, the exchange at second is slow and the throw to first low. Ringo fails to pick it and the ball bounces about 5 feet away from him allowing the Cougar who was at second to score as well. No error was put up on the scoreboard (but was listed in the boxscore today). In a PT SB game this summer, the other team did once score two runs on a force out at second with the bases loaded.
