We can stop worrying about second base for a while. Tavares and Craig have acquitted themselves recently. Therefore, what would be wrong with Matheny doing the following?:
Set up a strict rotation whereby Holiday，Jay，Tavares，Craig，Adams take every 5th day off (& Adams' day is always vs．LHP).
When Holliday sits: Tavares or Craig in LF
When Jay sits: Tavares in CF
When Tavares sits: Craig in RF
When Adams sits: Craig at 1B
When Craig sits: everyone at their natural positions
Have Bourjos as Pinch runner, late-inning defensive replacement in centerfield.
Jay should sit predomimately against RHP
Adams should always sit against LHP where possible (as long as it doesnt affect the more or less strict fifth day off rule). This should work pretty well since LH starters are running about 19% of all games.
If not, what's your idea? There is a log-jam. Who sits, ... and why?
