Daily Farm Report: Kolten Wong Homers in his Rehab Assignemt

Kolten Wong - Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports

The system goes 3-4 on the day.

Nashville 8 - Memphis 5

Notables:
Notes:

  • The good news is that the guys who have been in the mix for the big club, Grichuk and a rehabbing Kolten Wong and Joe Kelly all looked good. Grichuk and Wong provided almost all of the offense, and Joe Kelly had a Joe Kelly type outing.
  • The bad news is that Memphis was really bad outside of those 3.
  • Zach Petrick was responsible for all 8 runs. He has really struggled in AAA. His walk and strikout rates have continued to move toward each other and he has now allowed 10 homers in 66.1 innings in Memphis.
  • Randal Grichuk's home run was his team leading 13th.

Palm Beach 5 - Jupiter 3

Notables:
  • Charlie Tilson (CF): 0-4
  • Bruce Caldwell (2B): 1-4, R, HR, RBI, K
  • Luke Voit (1B): 1-4, R, K
  • Nick Martini (RF): 1-2, 2 R, 2B, BB
  • Bruce Caldwell (2B): 2-5, 2B, RBI, K
  • Mason Katz (DH):1-2, R, HR, 3 RBI
  • Silfredo Garcia (SP): 6 IP, 9 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K,1 HR

Notes:

  • Mason Katz, who was promoted after his 2 homer day on Sunday, picked up right where he left off in Peoria. He was tied for the Midwest League in homers when he got the call, and has now hit 6 home runs in his last 14 games.
  • As Cardinals645 noted yesterday, Charlie Tilson has been red hot lately. His ofer yesterday, was his 1st hitless game since June 22nd.

Kane County 6 - Peoria 1

Notables:
  • Vaughn Bryan (DH): 1-4, K

  • C.J. McElroy (CF): 0-4, K

  • Justin Ringo (1B): 2-4, R, 2B
  • Carson Kelly (C): 2-4

  • Juan Herrera (SS): 0-3, K

  • Kenny Peoples-Walls (LF): 1-3, 2 K

  • Arturo Reyes (SP): 2.2 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HR

  • Chris Perry (RP): 2 IP, 1 BB, 4 K

Notes:

  • The Kane County team twitter account noted last night that Chris Perry is tied for 5th in the Midwest League with 79 strikeouts despite having only thrown 47 innings. None of the pitchers ahead of him have pitched fewer than 71 innings, none of the pitchers in the top 10 have thrown fewer than 62.
  • 2013 draftee Justin Ringo has put together a nice start in the Midwest League. So far he is hitting .354/.427/.582 in his 1st exposure to full-season ball. The Stanford alum has also notched 10 extra base hits (6 2B, 4 HR) and walked 8 times against 11 strikeouts in 79 plate appearances so far.
  • Juan Herrera on the other hand has seen his numbers slowly decline after getting off to a strong start. His strikeout rate is sitting at 11.9%, but the plate discipline he showed earlier in the season has eroded and he has now walked in only 4.9% of his plate appearances. Going into June he had stolen 21 bases, but was only able to swipe one bag (back on June 8th) all month.

Batavia 6 - State College 4

Notables:
  • Danny Diekroeger (DH): 0-4, BB, K
  • Ronnierd Garcia (3B): 0-4, BB, K
  • Rowan Wick (RF): 1-3, R, 2B, 2 BB
  • Nick Thompson (LF): 1-4, R
  • Brian O'Keefe (C): 2-3, R, 2B, BB
  • Andrew Sohn (SS): 1-4, RBI, K
  • Dewin Perez (SP): 5 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
  • Kyle Grana (RP): 2 IP, 1 H, 3 K
  • Tyler Bray (RP): 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 3 K, 1 HR
Notes:

  • Brian O'Keefe, one of the players Fourstick noted in his handy State College preview had his 1st multi-hit game of the season, and had the Spikes' only XBH.
  • Reliever Kyle Grana, who also made an appearance in Fourstick's aforementioned preview, has looked good in his limited exposure thus far. In 12 innings for State College he has struck out 17 and walked only 2, and only allowed 1 ER.

DSL Rockies 5 - DSL Cardinals 1

Notables:

  • Carlos Talavera (CF): 2-4, 2B, 2K
  • Hector Linares (SS) 1-4, R
  • Allen Cordoba (3B): 1-3, RBI
  • Sandy Alcantara (SP): 5 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 6 K

GCL Cardinals 2 - GCL Marlins 0

Notables:

  • Edmundo Sosa (SS): 1-3, K
  • Rafael Ortega (CF): 0-2, K
  • Magneuris Sierra (RF): 1-2, R, SB
  • Malik Collymore (2B): 0-2
  • Elier Rodriguez (C): 0-2, K, SB
  • Michael Pritchard (1B): 1-2, R
  • Ronnie Williams (SP): 3 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
Notes:

  • There was, unfortunately, not much in the way of highlights. Both runs were a result of errors, and there wasn't a real standout pitching performance in the 6 inning game.

Johnson City 7 - Elizabethton 4

Notables:
  • Casey Turgeon (2B): 1-3, 2 R, 2 BB, K
  • Oscar Mercado (SS): 1-4, R, 2 RBI, BB, SB, CS
  • Blake Drake (RF): 1-4, R, RBI
  • Casey Grayson (DH: 2-4, R, RBI
  • Chris Rivera (3B): 1-3, RBI
  • Jose Godoy (C): 3-4
  • Jordan DeLorenzo (SP): 4 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K
Notes:

  • Jordan DeLorenzo has struck out 9 and walked 2 without allowing an earned run in his 2 Appy League starts.
  • Oscar Mercado's steal was his 6th of the season, he has been caught twice.
  • I really like Blake Drake's name.
