If injuries to Wacha, Kelly, Garcia and Molina, plus the Cardinals basically listless offense, do not say "rebuilding year", I dont know what does. And do not forget Lance Lynn is just gearing up for his post-All-Star break meltdown.
I know the rest of the central division looks weak, but lets go ahead and let the Brewers, Bucs and Reds have it this year, and just start getting ready for the Cubs in 2016. Even if we *got* a wildcard, we would get quickly eliminated. We're about *championships*.
Getting knocked out of the race on July 9 gives us the ability to spend the rest of the year getting plenty of playing time for our young question marks, i.e Tavares, Wong, Grichuk, and Piscotty.
Who is going to be the succesor to Yadi, or who can at least give him some days off or at 1B (platooning with Adams) in future years? Tony Cruz or Audrey Perez?
Also, who is going to be among the next set of young arms in the starting rotation? Martinez, Gonzalez, Lyons etc. Now's the time to get them plenty of innings. (PS Memphis looks to be completely out of arms. Perhaps dealing Craig at the deadline for some young hurlers would be a good idea).
