Matt Carpenter is starting to heat up, but does he really produce the offensive power numbers that you like to see from an All-Star caliber corner infielder? Examples: Evan Longoria, David Wright, Miguel Cabrera, Adrian Beltre... Carpenter's numbers seem to be perfect for that middle infielder. (2013 Stats: .318 11HR, 78RBI, 126R)
How does Wong deserve a starting spot, moving an MVP player to 3B (Carpenter), after getting picked off to end a World Series game with our best hitter at the plate (Beltran)? Sounds like he needs to think about what the game is about- which was made more clear when he was demoted earlier this year. I loved the Freese trade, thought it was very necessary and I have good faith in our new boys Grichuk and Bourjos.
I will say that I am thankful that we have stopped with "the goon platoon" at SS (Kozma, Descalso) Jhonny Peralta was a great signing for the Cardinals. But at age 32, and his average defense, does he really portrait that "missing shortstop" the Cardinals were looking for? I don't think so. His offensive numbers seem to be perfect for 3rd base. Let's not forget that 2 other teams were interested in him playing LF for them.
Earlier in the season, it was rumored that Troy Tulowitzki was on his way to STL for Allen Craig, Shelby Miller, and Pete Kozma... Looks like we missed out on that one, but surely we can structure something by the deadline to make #TuloBirdo happen. Let me know your thoughts!
Players needing to be on the block:
Miller or Lynn
Craig or Adams
Descalso or Kozma
