Memphis jumped on Las Vegas starter Darin Gorski right out of the gate. The Redbirds scored 8 runs in the game's 1st 4 innings, but the 51s bullpen was able to shut them out for the final 5 frames, while the Las Vegas offense went to work on Memphis' pen.
None of Tyler Lyons' 3 starts since coming off of the disabled list have been particularly good, nor has he worked very deep into games. With all the pitchers in St. Louis battling injuries it was an all hands on deck situation even before Shelby Miller left last night's game. A healthy and effective Tyler Lyons would be a nice boost for the parent club.
Randal Grichuk's home run was his team leading 12th.
In case you were worried that Oscar Taveras only had 1 plate appearance because he had to leave the game, he actually entered the game in the 8th as part of a double switch.
Joe Cuda's April was a disaster. He gave up 25 runs in 18 innings. Since then he has given up more than 3 runs in a start only once, and he hasn't had any of the disaster starts that plagued him in April.
This was Rob Kaminsky's 2nd start in a row without a walk, and he has only walked 1 batter in his last 4 starts. Kaminsky's 1st 3 starts in Peoria he had trouble working deep into games and avoiding walks. Since then he has avoided both of those issues and now has 40 strikeouts and 12 walks on the season.
