Daily Farm Report: Alex Reyes and Nick Petree Save the Day for the System

C.J. McElroy - Scott Rovak-USA TODAY Sports

Strong starts by Alex Reyes and Nick Petree and a big day at the plate for C.J. McElroy help the Chiefs sweep a double header in Beloit to keep the system from going winless on the day.

Colorado Springs 7 - Memphis 1

  • Kolten Wong is now batting .333 in Memphis. It may be time to see what he can do with the big club, perhaps in place of the struggling Daniel Descalso (.364 OPS), who could possibly benefit from some time in AAA to work on his swing.
  • Whiting started the season off well enough, only allowing 4 runs total in his first 4 starts, but he has allowed 5 runs in each of his last 2.
  • Oscar Taveras reached base 3 times, and his RBI single in the bottom of the 1st pushed his hitting streak to 13 games.

Northwest Arkansas 9 - Springfield 7

  • Jonathan Rodriguez was lifted for Mike O'Neill in the 4th; no injury was reported.
  • Jonathan Cornelius' strong start was spoiled when Dean Kiekhefer melted down for 7 runs in the top of the 9th.
  • Springfield's rally in the bottom half of the inning fell just short; Patrick Wisdom represented the tying run when he flied out to end the game. David Popkins, who had tied the game with a double in the 4th and put Springfield ahead with a 2 run homer in the 6th ended the game in the on deck circle.
