I know it's only the second game of the season, but the Cardinals are starting the 2014 season quietly. They had 3 hits total in game two vs. Cincinnati. As a Cardinal fan, it's painful to watch our hitters strikeout 21 times in two games. Matt Carpenter is 1 for 7 in the series with three strikeouts and a walk. Allen Craig is 1 for 8 with two strikeouts. Matt Holliday and Peter Bourjos havn't even touched first base yet. Johonny Peralta is 0 for 7 with a walk. Matt Adams and Yadier Molina each have two hits in 7 at-bats. Molina also has the only homerun, run, and RBI in the series. Kolten Wong has 2 hits in 6 at-bats with a double and a single. As our hitters are unimpressive so far, our pitchers are doing well. Adam Wainwright wins his 100th game and pitches 7 innings, strikes out 9, giving up 3 hits, and walking 4. Micheal Wacha has a no-decision while pitching 6 and two thirds innings and strikes out 7.
It is still really early in the season and there are 160 games to go. But if the Cardinals are to go to the play-offs, the offence needs to step it up and the pitching needs to continue to succeed. Go Cards!
