In the 2013 season, Matt Carpenter surprised everyone by leading the league in hits, runs, and doubles. With this breakout season, he won his first silver slugger and was fourth in MVP voting. My vote would go to him for Cardinals breakout player of the year, but who's going surprise us the most in 2014?
Micheal Wacha is a guy who many people thought was going to be the next Adam Wainwright. He showed his full potential in the play-offs last year and won the NLCS MVP award by beating Clayton Kershaw twice. St. Louis fans hope that he can carry his 2013 post season greatness into the 2014 season.
Kolten Wong has a shot at being the Cardinal's every day starting second basemen. He is one of the best Cardinal prospects and has a smooth glove and good speed. In the minors, he made consistent contact and had an average around .303. The 2014 season promises Kolten a chance to prove himself to the Cardinals.
Peter Bourjos is not a rookie but is still young. As an Angel, he struggled to stay healthy enough to play a full season. Bourjos can bring speed and defense in center field for sure. Who knows, maybe he will have an awesome year at the plate. You never know.
Oscar Taveras is the Cardinals top prospect, but has yet to play in the majors. In 2013, he got injured preventing him from getting to play on the Cardinals. On the upside, he is healthy and is certain to get some playing time in 2014. I know many Cardinals fans hope they see him in the lineup as the starting right fielder in 2014.
Matt Adams a great season launching 17 homers in under 300 at-bats. Imagine what he would do in 500 at-bats. And if the trend continues, he will have a monster season in 2014.
These are the players that I think will have breakout seasons, but if I missed anybody leave their names in the comments.
