In one swing, Matt Holliday dashes Willy Peralta's no hit and shutout hopes by hitting his 19th home run of the season in the sixth inning last night, giving the Cardinals a two run lead scoring two Matts - himself and Matt Carpenter who scored run number 113 of the season to lead the majors.
But you guys already knew that, so let's look to tonight.
Getting the ball tonight and the job of preserving the starting rotation's 22+ inning scoreless streak is Lance Lynn. Lynn looks to get to win number 14 and keep the Cardinals in first place and at least one game in front the the Pirates, who also won last night. Rumor has it that this is a do or die start for Lumberjack Lance (if dying equates to moving to the bullpen), as he has struggled as of late, tying as career high in his last start out by allowing three home runs to the Reds (all solo shots, all in GABP). If LL struggles tonight, we may soon see the likes of the handsome rookie southpaw, Tyler Lyons or possibly the a rookie with a Superman-like fastball from the Dominican Republic, Carlos Martinez.
Against the Birdos tonight for the Brewers is the 4 -6 right-hander Marco Estrada. Estrada is is 0 - 4 lifetime against the Cards with a 6.47 ERA. He should be well rested with 11 days in between starts.
The Cardinals need to continue their run of excellent starting pitching and no one needs to do it more than Lance Lynn. Let's hope he can figure something out tonight and help put another W in the win column.
