Shortstop Alexei Ramirez, reliever Matt Lindstrom and former Cardinals catching prospect Bryan Anderson for lefty reliever prospects Nick Additon, Lee Stoppelman and Danny Miranda, shortstop prospect Greg Garcia, leftfield prospect Mike O'Neill and centerfield prospect James Ramsey.
General manager John Mozeliak should then option Peter Kozma and Michael Wacha to Triple-A Memphis, designate for assignment Jake Westbrook, Daniel Descalso and Rob Johnson, and recall Sam Freeman and Ryan Jackson from Triple-A Memphis.
Next season, after free agents Beltran and Mujica depart, options are declined on Westbrook and Lindstrom, Chris Carpenter and Rafael Furcal either retire or sign elsewhere, and arbitration eligibles Fernando Salas and Descalso are non-tendered, Oscar Taveras takes over in CF, Jaime Garcia rejoins the rotation, Carlos Martinez and Wacha challenge Lyons and Kelly for the 5th starter job, Rosenthal becomes the new closer, while Keith Butler and Michael Blazek challenge the 5th starter losers and Maness for bullpen jobs. Jason Motte and John Gast will likely start the regular season on the disabled list. Mozeliak might want to consider signing a free agent backup catcher, such as former Cardinal and current Brave Gerald Laird.
