It seems like an easier transition than 2B and could get him at bats without blocking Adams, Taveras, etc. His defense will probably not be very good, but will it be worse than David "Concrete Shoes" Freese? Freese's defense is worse than Miguel Cabrera's and that's pretty bad. Beltran's defense in RF was even worse than Freese's at 3B, but I do think he could stand in one place and catch grounders one step on either side of him and fire bullets to Adams at first. A good stick at third makes it easier to continue playing a defense first shortstop. If we are going to overpay on the free agent market, I'd rather overpay for Carlos Beltran than Stephen Drew. Jess sayin'. P.S. Is it too early to point to the Jed Lowrie trade and suggest that perhaps the Cardinals current success has more to do with Mo-hatma than Luhnow?
