Cards 2013 Minors predictions

Stay connected for news and updates

This upcoming season looks to be very exciting for the Cardinals' minor league season. Memphis and Springfield will both field strong teams capable of contending for their respective championships. There are many minor league pundits that will be ranking our system as tops in all of baseball. Here are three predictions I have about the upcoming season. They all won't come true but I'm just a fan, not an expert. These will all be positive predictions because I don't feel like being negative with undesirable predictions. Let me know what you think.

1. The Memphis red birds will win the PCL championship. They are anchored by their strong rotation of Martinez, Manness, Wacha, Gast, Lyons plus John mozeliaks decision to refrain from early September call ups for Wong, Tavares, Garcia and Adams. Rondon, Cleto and swagerty lead a shut down bullpen.

2. Jenkins, Swagerty, and Blair rebound in 2013. Tyrell puts up a solid season between quad cities and palm beach with over 150 innings and gets a 3.50 era averaging a K/IP. Swagerty begins as a starter in palm beach to give him a regular work load every 5 days. At mid season, he moves up to Springfield and eventually finishes in the Memphis bullpen for a late season playoff run. Blair starts as a starter in in palm beach, but continues to struggle with control. He goes to the bullpen midseason and dominates the rest of the season.

3. The 2011 draft class shines brightly in 2013. Cj McElroy builds on his strong finish to 2012 with a solid season in low A in 2013. He shows improvement on his on base skills and steals over 50 bases. Charlie Tilson rebounds from his injury plagued 2012 with a good season, starting in extended spring training and finishing strong at Johnson City. He flashes power potential and shows off his athleticism in the outfield. Kolten Wong proves that his weak second half of AA was truly just fatigue from his first full pro season. He has a great year in AAA. Hits around .300 with a .375 obp and shows off a plus glove.
