9 pitching prospects I'd like to know more about

I was simply perusing baseball-references' minor league statistics and sorted by K/9 innings and found some prospects that I know virtually nothing about, but would like to know more if people have the time and the information.

First off, I only looked at players 22 and younger that mostly are starters AND that had strikeout rates of at least one an inning. I paid zero attention to how many runners they allow to reach base (by hit or walk) and zero attention to where they were at in the system - since I was looking 22 and younger. The only exception to that is I only found players with K:BB above 5.

I did take a look and made sure I had zero players drafted in the first round (read: Dylan Bundy) because I figured I could find out information on them easily enough on my own.

Lastly, if someone could also tell me who these players equate to in the Cardinals' system and/or what it would take the Cardinals to get these players, I'd appreciate it greatly.

The players after the jump:

  1. David Holmberg is a 20 year old lefty in the Diamondbacks system. He was drafted in the 2nd round by the White Sox in 2009. This season he has started 11 games at High A and has 70 1/3 innings pitched, 76 K, 14 BB, a 1.009 WHIP and a .282 BABIP against.
  2. Tony Cingrani is a 22 year old lefty in the Reds system. He was drafted in the 3rd round last year. This season he has started 10 games at High A and has 50 2/3 innings pitched, 71 K, 13 BB, a 0.918 WHIP and a .276 BABIP against.
  3. Tyler Pill is a 22 year old righty in the Mets system. He was drafted in the 4th round last year. This season he has started 9 games at Low A and has 51 2/3 innings pitched, 54 K, 8 BB, a 1.239 WHIP and a .353 BABIP against.
  4. Nicholas Tropeano is a 21 year old righty in the Astros system. He was drafted in the 5th round last year. This season he has started 10 games (appearing in 11) at A ball and has 64 1/3 innings pitched, 76 K, 13 BB, a 1.119 WHIP, and a .331 BABIP against.
  5. Miguel Pena (one of the two at least) is a 21 year old lefty in the Red Sox system. He was drafted in the 6th round last year - his third time drafted. This season he has started 9 games (appearing in 10) at A ball and has 52 1/3 innings pitched, 57 K, 8 BB, a 1.013 WHIP, and a .309 BABIP against.
  6. Burch Smith is a 22 year old righty in the Padres system. He was drafted three times as well, most recently in the 14th round last year. This season he has started 10 games at High A and has 49 2/3 innings pitched, 53 K, 7 BB, a 1.148 WHIP, and a .308 BABIP against.
  7. Clayton Blackburn is a 19 year old righty in the Giants system. He was drafted in the 16th round last year. This season he has started 9 games at A ball and has 44 2/3 innings pitched, 56 K, 9 BB, a 1.209 WHIP, and a .355 BABIP against.
  8. CJ Riefenhauser is a 22 year old lefty in the Rays system. He was drafted in the 20th round in the 2010 draft. This season he has started and finished 4 games apiece (pitching in 13 different contests) at High A. He has thrown 47 innings, has 60 K, 9 BB, a 1.106 WHIP, and a .356 BABIP.
  9. Carlos Quevedo is a 22 year old righty in the Astros system. He is from Venezuela, thus was not drafted. He was picked up prior to the 2009 season, starting with the Astros that year. This season he is at A ball and has thrown in 16 games, starting two and finishing four. He has thrown 42 1/3 innings and has 47 K, 5 BB, a 0.945 WHIP, and a .302 BABIP against.
Thanks for any and all help you guys can give on this!
