Gio Gonzalez is just the worst.
Adam Wainwright is a really good pitcher who had a terrible game. He threw some bad pitches and he didn't get away with any of them. Mike Matheny could have probably pulled him earlier than he did, but I can't really blame him for not doing it.
Gio Gonzalez is like watching a better version of Edwin Jackson—lots of mistakes, not a lot of hits, four hours a start win or lose. He is a stupendously frustrating opposing pitcher, especially when Kurt Suzuki is around to do the knuckleball-catcher act around the plate. Matt Holliday and Yadier Molina were the victims of this routine in the fifth inning.
The Washington Nationals lead the St. Louis Cardinals 6-3 with Game 5 of the NLDS halfway over. Things could be much better, but at this very moment it's not a blowout.
