Never cared for Mayo much, but this years list is particularly egregious. Only Shelby Miller and Carlos Martinez make the top 100. It's like he completely ignored the Cardinals system. No Tavares, Jenkins, Wong, Cox, Adams. Tavares and Jenkins should be no brainers. All the other lists I have seen have 5 or 6 Cardinals in the Top 100. Awful list.

Nothing worse then Mayo that's gone bad

All you need to do is read Mayo’s list of top 10 Cardinal prospects and the obvious jumps out at you; the man hasn’t a clue what he’s talking about. He has only a cursory knowledge of our farm system. Seth Blair, Joe Kelly and John Gast among our best. Don’t think so! Blair rated higher then Tyrell Jenkins, Oscar Taveras, Matt Adams, Trevor Rosenthal, Lance Lynn, Eduardo Sanchez and Kolten Wong. The last 4 not even in his top 10. How can you take a guy like this seriously when he seems to be just pulling names out of a hat. I’ve seen 7 other prospect lists (some of which go up to 20 players) and Blair isn’t named on one of them. Kelly is mid-teens and Gast goes from early teens to not even mentioned. So it’s no surprise that only 2 of our players made his top 100 list. Mayo just has very poor judgement and therefore should not be employed by MLB website to embarrass them with his ignorance.

Uh, aren't you looking at Mayo's 2011 list?

I don’t think he’s put the 2012 one up yet.

Far be it from me to defend the guy, but you can’t blame him for not writing a 2012 top-10 list in 2011.

His 2011 top-10 Cardinals list, I mean.

There is nothing to be said for his 2012 Top 100 list. It’s a screwup, period.

Just curious

You could be right, but if that’s the case why does he update his lists when trades are made or players are called up and lose their rookie status. Why not wait until he does his 2012. If you are constantly updating your list then your list is current ergo, that is his 2012 list.

This list is getting absolutely skewered at Minor League Ball

I generally agree that Mayo is a dunce and his poor evaluation of the Cardinals system is indicative of that, but he is entitled to his opinion, and there’s nothing more subjective than prospect rankings.

I guess I'm being a little harsh

As is calling him a dunce. Unfortunately, I take his rankings with a grain of salt because they are so far off other lists. If MLB hires him and promotes him as their expert in this field then he should be just that, but he isn’t. I don’t know how he gets all his information on all the different systems, but to me, it’s flawed in a big way. MLB obviously just does these lists more for entertainment value for fans then they do for proper education. If you can’t trust MLB’s system of education on top prospects then it is completely pointless and right now, it’s the last place I’d go to find out who the top prospects are in baseball.

You could make a legit argument for any one of the non-Miller/CMart prospects to not be a top 100 guy

(although I find it very hard to see an argument for leaving Taveras off), for instance, Adams’ walkrate and lack of defensive value, Cox’s low upside and lack of power, Jenkins still being ultra-raw etc., but I really can’t see how they can ALL be left off the top 100, except by outright bias or ignorance.

Still bitching to contact.
