Around SBN: Win or Lose, Boston Celtics' New Big 3 Era A Success

Wong Dinger

While back home in July, took a drive up to Quad Cities and caught a River Bandits Game against the Dayton Dragons at lovely Modern Woodmen Park. A pic of the park, the bullpen amidst the corn, a trivia photo, and a short video of a Kolten Wong dinger swing.

Also got to see Oscar Taveras play (and hit), as well as a couple of shots that ended up in the river.

It's a great park to visit, the prices are right (two seats on the dugout for $10) and the Quad Cities zone was very pleasant - especially when it was 100 plus degrees in STL.

Hope you enjoy!

Trivia Photo

Is anybody gonna take a stab at the identity of the former STL second bagger in the third photo? Winner gets a complimentary package of Lester Hayes “Stickum” sent to Rafael Furcal!

Other mysteries remain. TL

Good job old bean

You got it – 3rd base coach for the Daytona Dragons – took me a few moments to figure it out live and in person, just 20 feet away!

Good post.

I’ve been to three River Bandits games this year. Oscar is easily the nicest pro player I’ve ever seen. The guy signs autographs every game, gives away his bats to little kids without them even asking him, talks to the fans, takes pictures. He’s a pleasure to watch play, he just has so much fun playing baseball, it’s like the most talented little leaguer ever. It’s great to see a player of all that talent be that nice of a guy. Some of the other players only respond with one word answers like “yeah” or “uh huh” Oscar answers with more words and he doesn’t have a firm grip on english yet! I hope he stays in QC next season, just so I can see him play more. I’m excited to watch him in Center or Left field for the Cardinals in a few years!

I think it's really cool to hear about stuff like this. Thanks for sharing!

Personality stuff does matter, especially when it comes to liking a player. I hope Oscar Taveras becomes a very likable and very good major leaguer.

I think it’s safe to say that it’s an exciting time for the Cardinals’ farm system.

If he makes the majors

Oscar will be a likeable player, that’s for sure. I think he has a pretty nice swing, he’s always barrelling the ball.

I'm also starting to see comments on the web about him getting benched a few times for "effort" issues

I’m not worried about that too much from a very talented 19 year old. Hopefully he’ll mature a little bit without totally losing the lust for life.
