Their shortstop, Sellers
actually plays not only that position, but back-up catcher, the fiendish Fu Manchu , the British Colonel who gets all nervous, and that bumbling inspector guy who is always having hilarious hijinks.

Eff this season.
I know it’s early in the game, but goddamn I am SO disappointed with another season of a ho-hum fade into distant second at the end of the year. I mean, yea, losing games at the beginning of the year counts just as much, but this really sucks ass.

I wish he'd get fired instead of quit
But I’d rather we finish the season well and not even offer him a contract.
TLR has no pride
Or sense of shame. (As shown by his shilling for Ray Vinson, who is basically a human weasel. He even looks like one). He’ll keep collecting a paycheck no matter what. He’ll keep coming back as manager as long as he’s offered the job.
The only hope is a better job elsewhere, which is a possibility.

Punto progressing nicely... still
Nick Punto is getting closer to returning to the Cardinals.
Punto, who has not played since July 28 due to a strained left oblique muscle, has begun swinging a bat as he rehabilitates from the injury. He has been throwing for a couple of weeks now, and as of this week he has progressed from hitting off a tee to taking soft toss.
“Hopefully in a few days I’ll get out there and take some batting practice with the team,” he said.
Minor League seasons are nearing their end, but Punto expects to be able to go out on a Minor League rehabilitation assignment before the early-September conclusions of those seasons. He said Tuesday that he would hope to only need two or three games before returning to the active roster.

his claim that everyone cares about their appearance is such a bold, grandiose claim that it is easily shot down. just think about perhaps, weird branchoffs and sects of hinduism or buddhism, that really don’t care about appearances. or perhaps, native tribes of the amazon. but then again, perhaps being fat would be a good way to go in those particular cultures.

no that is not what i meant

it’s reasonable to say everybody cares about his appearance. like “no pitcher can control his babip”—when you’ve got six billion people you can forget about the knuckleballers.

you are lucky to make any money at all. an average night basically consists of bringing all your gear into a bar but getting a sandwich and like 3 beers. there are some night where you could make like $50 to $100 for the band, but once that’s split up that’s not much really. most places will oblige you the drinks though. as for paintings you gotta make large paintings or have some kind of technological bent and do installations and stuff like that. not really my specialties. fine art is not a big market in recessions basically.

I’m always a bit disappointed that car racing gets knocked around here as bad as it does. I guess it’s the stigma that goes with it. But it takes everything that people around here love to do. That's not so terrible.
Usually I have one of three songs stuck in my head: Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Peter’s Theme from Peter and the Wolf, and The Imperial March from Star Wars. They must be the catchiest tunes of all time.
Disney’s Robin Hood theme is pretty catchy. Oh, and that Stay song by Lisa Loeb.

I have that How Bizzare song stuck for about a year now

I always get the song from the MST3K episode Secret Agent, Super Dragon in my head.

Good lord
this team is just a fucking embarrassment. I swore last year when the cards acquired aaron miles I wouldn’t attend another game til the end of the season. This team may be tougher to watch. As a Los Angeles native all I really have to say is…well…the Dodgers? The fucking Dodgers? We just lost…to the fucking Dodgers…I gave up on this team for the season the day Colby was traded. At least I had something to look forward to then. Fuck tony. Hell, fuck Johnny Mo. This is the first time since the Dodgers lost Piazza that I’ve lost most, if not all faith in the team I rooted for.

Is it sad
that I’ve got more Rays jerseys than Cards jerseys and I’ve been in St. Louis for… 15ish years… I always say “If you don’t expect anything and you don’t receive anything, you can’t be disappointed.”

And for the record...
My Cards jerseys are Lankford (not easy to find for someone my age), Rolen, and Rasmus.

that collection is telling, for sure
If you don’t expect anything, then why bother caring? That’s how I look at it. It’s just season that went down hill. Been thru a lot of them.

Because baseball is my thing
I love baseball. When I wake up every morning, the first thing I do is read VEB. Can’t start my day without it. I don’t expect this team to win a playoff spot, and I haven’t for a while. I love all of baseball, not just teams or players.

That's a great question
I started getting into sabermetrics in 2004-05 and I really liked their FO at the time. I follow minor league baseball just as much as the majors, so they were a logical team for me to follow. Scott Kazmir was the new and upcoming guy…Delmon Young…Upton…Brignac…etc… It was a logical conclusion. I’m definitely a two team guy. I follow the cards on a daily basis, but if the Rays are in St. Louis I wear my Rays garb to every one. I actually got an Albert HR ball out of it (wearing a Garza [who’s now dead to me] jersey).

We also lost to the Cubs and Pirates.
Not really the Pirates, but I’d consider the Cubs lower on the totem pole of embarrassment than the Dodgers.

I don't disagree
but I’m an LA native. Not quite as bad as the cubs for me personally, but I have a little vendetta against the dodgers.

OT: Computer programming
Does anyone on here do any kind of programming stuff? I was about a year from graduating with my POLS bachelors before I decided to switch to CMIS. Any tips going forward? I’ve a pretty extensive history with networking and business but so far programming has been a blast.

There are programmers that frequent here, but I don't think there are any on right now.
Still not a werewolf.
Two tips:
1. Get a basic understanding of how to program and learning individual languages come pretty easy. Especially after learning patterns and OO stuff.
2. Learn Objective-C. Code for iOS. Profit?

Double OT: Why the Cardinals?
After spilling my guts for the first time about my dual fandom since I joined here in 2005, I’m curious what led others to follow the BOTB.

boring family reasons for me
springfield’s split pretty evenly between the cardinals and cubs, and I was lucky enough to be born on the right side of the family.
At least we got you
and not Al Yellon! I wasn’t your biggest fan of yours after lb left but I think you’re definitely in the top 3-5 writers in SBN baseball today.

thanks! I appreciate it
it’s weird, though, I think being a cubs fan would have made me a much different writer. angrier, for one thing.
If he becomes a decent or better major leaguer and does backflips before games sometimes, I will be such a big fan.
Is Jon Jay the next Willie McGee? Is Arthur Rhodes the next Arthur Rhodes?
This. Also, watching games with grandma.

Well when your parents take you to games since you were 2, you tend to grow a bond.
I literally was born into Cardinal fandom… into being a die-hard really. Apparently, I taught myself to read by looking at the Cardinals previews and roster and media guides and I would memorize the words and learn them. I obviously can’t remember but its a pretty cool story if true. (And I don’t know why my parents would make such a stupid lie if not.)
