interesting stat

The top 5 teams in the NL, by errors, coming in to today’s game, are all NLC- CHC (91), HOU (80), PIT (76), and MIL (72). We started the day tied for 5th at 71, so we’re now tied for 4th with MIL. So as of now, 5 of the top 6 are NLC teams.

Yeah

Because otherwise Theriot would play 75% at shortstop.

Skip, Theriot, Greene, Descalso – IE our middle infielders – all kind of suck. Theriot and Skip are probably the best hitters, but they are also the worst defenders. So Furcal is a pretty big upgrade over everyone.

by vivaelpujols on Jul 30, 2011 8:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Depends on the prospects

.330 wOBA would make him about 5 runs better than our shortstops over the rest of the year on offense. Not sure about defense. He’s way better than Theriot, but about the same as Delcalso and Greene. So let’s say 7 runs the rest of the year overall.

That’s probably worth a couple of C prospects + cash.

Looks like Derrek Lee to the Pirates is “getting very close” according to a source. Could very well happen tonight.

Nice move by the Rox to trade Ubaldo...

seems like there’s at least a 50% one of White/Pomeranz becomes the next Ubaldo.

even then, they already have enough cheap talent already in the majors

that the deal doesn’t hurt them as badly as it would other teams.

And what a shit-tacular inning it was...

if I’m the Indians, I’m taking my top prospects back. Call up Pomeranz if they want an impact pitcher for the stretch run.

And didn't Pomeranz sign at the deadline last year?

He can’t go right now. Something is fishy about this one.

hmm...

well, if he’s burned because of this one inning start they may get only 11 starts out of him instead of 12. Not much of difference I guess. David Huff is a clear step down.

They’ve lost 7 of 8 and the Tigers are obviously better. I don’t think this is a very wise move.

Giants have no offense

and have outperformed their pythag by 6 games, so far. ARI has been better than SF by 2 pythag wins, so far, and with all the injuries in SF, really does have a chance. If SF’s luck evens out, ARI will end up on top, even with Beltran.

Not sure Jason Marquis is the answer though. Probably would have gone for Derrick lee. Or something like Chris Davis/Mark Hamilton.

I agree. It sounds like that rumor has died down.

Could be because the Cards have been focused on the Furcal deal.
