Sometime in my late 20's
I found I was more productive when I stopped grabbing something off the floor/hamper and honestly got my shit together in the mornings and had a cup of coffee and checked the paper. I don’t always do it, but I feel much better the rest of the day when I do. So that bled into the weekends and wanting to look not like a bum when I left the house.

for the record for most double plays grounded into in a single season. Jim Rice has the top two spots, having grounded into 36 in ’84 and 35 a year later. 71 GIDPs in two years? HFS.
Also, assuming Albert gets around 660 PAs this year, given his current rate, he’d up breaking the record. Gross.

unicorns are advised. Strauss was right that they were going to trade Rasmus, although he got repeatedly scooped by nat’l writers on the actual terms of the deal. So if he says they’re actively searching for a SS, that much is believable.

I sit down to watch the Cardinals and Freese hits a HR to left center on the first pitch! He actually pulled a ball with power! Hopefully that means he’s getting healthy!

Per strauss:
Hearing SS now Cards priority. Hearing more likely than not Mo’ pulls off another deal before deadline. Rumored move IMO a difference-maker.
If the cards include Martinez in a deal for Hanley, are you mad?

Do work
That essentially takes that place of Albert’s current contract. Considering we’d have to probably raise payroll to give Bert the raise he wants/expects, and that front office has mentioned numerous times before that it’d be willing to raise it’s payroll in general, why not let Albert walk and use the extra space to sign a 1b? First basemen are certainly easier to come by than stud SSs.
I’m not suggesting the Cardinals do this or anything, but I mean, it’s not like we couldn’t handle a trade for him financially, and at the same time I think we’d still be in position to be a pretty good team out on the field.

do you not buy the defensive spectrum concept?
A testy Pujols when asked by @JoeStrauss if he thinks this injury will affect his future "that’s a stupid question, Joe," then walks off.
The defensive spectrum is irrelevant to why Theriot should not play 2B
by Willie McGee's Twin on Jul 29, 2011 10:44 PM EDT up reply actions
sincere question
Do you consider these equal: Theriot at 2nd with Punto at short vs. Punto at 2nd and Theriot at short?
Still not a werewolf.
Fundamentally, yes
There is no statistical or scouting reason to suggest that isn’t the case.
by Willie McGee's Twin on Jul 29, 2011 10:50 PM EDT up reply actions
Slight difference
But for reasons I’ve typed out many times before, does not make any measurable difference here and does not mean Theriot should be playing 2b.
by Willie McGee's Twin on Jul 29, 2011 10:58 PM EDT up reply actions
I mean
his noodle arm is less of a problem at second, and Pujols’ ranginess means he could probably cheat to his right a little at second. Maybe it wouldn’t make a huge difference, but the idea is harm reduction, rather than thinking he’s going to be a great second baseman….
A testy Pujols when asked by @JoeStrauss if he thinks this injury will affect his future "that’s a stupid question, Joe," then walks off.
I view it as a sort of opportunity cost
SS is the more important defensive position, so if Theriot is playing 2B, that means he’s NOT playing SS. I’d rather have a better fielder at SS than 2B. Theriot is going to suck defensively no matter where he is.

A double is the perfect hit for a milestone. There’s no first base or third base coach to chat with and deflect the attention. There’s no dugout to hide in and pop out and acknowledge the crowd. A double: you have to stand there alone and just take it all in.

Somewhat relevant to the Furcal whispers
The Dodgers’ talks about trading infielder Jamey Carroll have died, tweets Dylan Hernandez of the L.A. Times, while there’s a touch of interest in Rafael Furcal. Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer adds that the Dodgers’ talks with the Indians have grown cold, so Carroll and Hiroki Kuroda won’t be going to Cleveland.

Just heard a neat story on local news
There’s a guy who lives in Springdale (I think) Ark. who is referenced in the HOF as the only white guy to play for two different Negro League teams. He was in the Cards minors for a bit, but got cut then was discovered by Negro League scouts while in the Air Force. The other thing that surprised me is that they still had a league in the ’70’s (lasted until 1986 according to the story).

I know the Cubs are terriible
but tonight was pretty satisfying. 3 different 3 run rallies, Theriot played 2nd base, Freese hit a bomb, Pujols had 2 doubles (team had 7 overall, counting what should have been a ROE for Theriot) and his 2,000th hit, Jackson pitched well, Schumaker had an assist from right field….
Now if I could forget that Corey Patterson participated at all and that K-Mac wasn’t very good, I could almost be optimistic again….
A testy Pujols when asked by @JoeStrauss if he thinks this injury will affect his future "that’s a stupid question, Joe," then walks off.
....
…Yadi singled on a nice pitch too. Garza is tough, I’m glad the Cards hit him well tonight. Holliday is probably faster than people give him credit for….think we might see him play CF once or twice? Also, WTF was Soto’s mask still doing on his head as he was trying to field the (surprisingly good) throw from Soriano?
…seriously, there’s no way that’s a double, that’s an E5 on Ramirez. That was ugly. Riot’s other hit was legit.
…Jon Jay probably would’ve had Byrd’s GRD.

also, i think everyone’s expectations are a bit off this year. last year, 40K+ showed up to weeknight games against the marlins and 45K+ to cubs games. this year, 35-37K is more common with the 40+K crowds reserved for cubs and SOME saturday evening games.

thought just occurred to me
what if….
The Cards pick up Carp’s option, and actually extend Jackson at the same time. The idea is that Wainwright gets extra time to recover from TJ. Carp, Garcia, Jackson, Westbrook, Lohse for next year’s rotation, with Lynn and McClellan as depth. Cards can then attempt to trade either Westbrook, Jackson, Carp, or maybe even Lohse at various points ranging from the offseason, the deadline, or maybe just whenever Wainwright is ready to go.
A testy Pujols when asked by @JoeStrauss if he thinks this injury will affect his future "that’s a stupid question, Joe," then walks off.
admittedly I might just be drunk
I guess this is a roundabout way of saying that the fact that Jackson is 27 just made Carp’s future with the Cards more complicated.

What would you (we) guess the difference between salaries?

that's what the original post was getting @
Westbrook seems like a guy who could be movable under the right circumstances. Let him start for half a season and let it be known thru the grapevine that when Waino comes back WB is available…..something like that. The idea is to take pressure off A.D.A.M. to come back early.
And anyway, Jackson it seems to me is a strong enough pitcher that he’s throwing off everything we were assuming about the Cards’ rotation for the next 1-2 years.
I’m trying not to base this off the fact that he got a W tonight, just that he’s a quality pitcher in general…
A testy Pujols when asked by @JoeStrauss if he thinks this injury will affect his future "that’s a stupid question, Joe," then walks off.

He’s very cheap and likely better than Lohse and Westbrook. I would trade both of them at the end of the year, resign Jackson and pick up Carp’s option.

well, that's just it
the Rasmus blockbuster seems like a desperation move precisely because it fucks w/ whatever the FO’s long term plans w/ the current starting pitchers were. Now Mo has to manage the return of Wainwright with one (or maybe even two) more veteran(s) than he needs.
I guess all I’m really getting at is that we’re collectively going to be spending some time on trying to figure out how the pitching has changed in the aftermath of the Toronto trade.
A testy Pujols when asked by @JoeStrauss if he thinks this injury will affect his future "that’s a stupid question, Joe," then walks off.
I don't really see how the Rasmus fucks with the long term plan of the pitchers

I liked the rest though.
I don’t think I could ever get tired of Superbad, and Juno’s quacky, original screenplay probably will never make me hate it (Plus, you know, Cera’s not in it enough to make me mad).

the thing is, they also showed Mac and Freese, and inserted some amusing homer dialogue… but never mentioned that Freese was probably there for the original homerun chase.

Do you all remember the good olde tymes?
When Fritz made jokes about shitting while love-making? Or even love-making while shitting?
Well, it seems so long ago. I’m not sure I can get behind this new and “improved” Fritz, what with the hip-hop music and the rui sperm. It just seems phoney, somehow. Like he doesn’t really mean it. I know that somewhere, deep inside, he’s still that same scat porn-loving cargo shorts-wearing man. We just need to keep on loving him. Only he can do the rest.
Is Jon Jay the new Willie McGee?

of songs to play to wake up my roommate
Still not a werewolf.
When I was in the Marines
I woke my roommate up to this song, dancing around during it with a buddy. The song ended, I hopped in my bed, and my friend ran out the room. The next morning my roommate asked if anything weird happened the night before. I told him no.
Two years later I finally told him the truth and he nearly killed me. He literally was going insane thinking he imagined us dancing around him the night.
