i mean, i know neither Lego, nor Berk can play center but Jay seems a little more like a corner outfielder to me than a CF

I probably won't explain it well, but I'll give it a shot.

CFs need to be fast. Usually that means a skinny guy with wheels. Skinny guys with wheels usually don’t hit for much power. If you can find a guy who is fast enough to patrol CF and still have power, you’re golden. But that usually isn’t how it works out.

try
this.

The basic premise of the spectrum is that positions at the bottom end are more difficult than the positions at the top end of the spectrum. Therefore, the positions at the top are easier to fill, since the physical demands are less as you move left along the spectrum. A corollary to this is the fact that, since defensive skill is at less of a premium at the top end, players at those positions must provide more offense than those at the bottom end. Another corollary is that players can generally move from bottom to top along the spectrum successfully during their careers.

This is related to the “anybody can play second base” joke.

well, not too dirty, but funny. and it involves Dan’s sex life.

This was a few years ago, when Dan first started doing TV

my brother’s best friend was dating this girl for awhile, until one day he walked in on his girlfriend getting taken to pound town by the voice of the FSMW. (Can you imagine how red faced he was?) Well, she didn’t just disappear in the chubby arms of Dan the Red. She started meeting him out at bars where my brother & his buddy were at, and Dan would try to be buddy-buddy with the dude! Straight tormenting the guy. And apparently, Dan was shameless about using his FSMW stardom to get into many a girls pants.

To this day, my brother’s friend refuses to watch Cardinals tv broadcast because he “just can’t stand that smug f*cker.”

Mike Shannon: "That strikeout was brought to you by...by...well, I don't know what it was brought to you by!"

John Rooney: "It wasn't brought to you by anything Mike."

the dude was relatively nonchalant about the whole experience.

but he HATES Dan. HATES him. Not so much because he boned his girlfriend (they weren’t super serious), but because how friendly he tried to be about the whole situation.

I’m on the record as saying if I was TLR, I would never want him on my team again.

And then this spring training, with us paying money to Theriot and Schumaker, plus bringing in Punto and with DD having a great spring, TLR was giving Greene playing time in CF so he would have a chance at making the team.

Last year, when both were healthy and on the team, Greene started over Miles.

liner to third

actually hits the bag and pops up. Continues rolling toward the point in the wall where it sticks out in shallow left, but has lost a lot of steam. The umpire is running down signalling fair ball, but since Freese gave up on it (bad hammy), some of those fans see it coming toward them and just assume it’s a foul. The usher was yelling not to touch it, and it looked like he even had his hand on one particular guy’s shoulder, and at first he sat down, but then stood back up and grabbed it. The usher came over and started giving him some grief, and I assume they threw that guy out.

Anyone ever sat in the Diamond Box seats behind Cards dugout?

Is there an air conditioned or at least covered lounge area available for this section? I was offered free tix for Saturday’s game, but the wife is very pregnant and I’m thinking there’s no way she can make it through the game without a lounge area to take a break from the sun.

Pence is so weird

Because he’s clearly a really good player. But he looks and moves like a combination of Lurch from The Addams Family and Bizarro from the Superman comics. Somehow his natural athleticism is actually able to overcome his natural awkwardness.

This game reminds me of last year.

I don’t know if any of you remember this specific game, but last year I went to a game in early August and think it was Garcia that pitched against the Astros and got completely bombed. We ended up loosing by a ton and then as I was walking out of the stadium, I saw on my phone that Freese was going to miss the rest of the season.

With the Rasmus trade yesterday, this feels almost that bad.

Mo just REALLY wanted Dotel, but Dotel insisted on having 28 as his number. Logically, Rasmus had to be rid of, so Rasmus was thrown in. Before that it was just Miller, PJ, and Tallet for Jackson, Dotel, and Rzepczynski.

I just don't understand

What the fascination is. Seriously. Dude had one good year, and was still the third best bat in the lineup.

We have two guys in the lineup that will for SURE have better careers than Colby. AP is one of the best to EVER play the game. Carp and Waino are studs. Yadi is a damn good catcher with a cool personality.

But Colby? Favorite player? I don’t get it. It’s like you are just TRYING to be different. Like emo kids before being emo was actually popular.
