Why The Cardinals NEED Ubaldo Jimenez

Colorado Rockies GM Dan O'Dowd has made his price for Ubaldo Jimenez clear saying he wants a Hershal Walker type offering. For those of you unaware of what that means, the Vikings acquired Walker from the Cowboys way back in 1989, for a total of 8 picks(3 were 1st Round) plus 5 additional players. Now, I don't believe the Cardinals will need to give an offering that vast but it will cost a little bit but Ubaldo Jimenez would be well worth it for this ball club.

First off, the Cardinals need Jimenez more than other teams cause of the cheap salary and a contract running through 2014. If the Cardinals can in fact resign Albert Pujols, they will have two huge contracts on their payroll, and not to forget Yadier Molina and Adam Wainwright will need new contracts soon. These two facts will leave the Cardinals with little room to pay another elite starter which is needed to contend in the competitive NL Central.

Believe or not, getting Ubaldo Jimenez is not as hard for the Cardinals as one may think. I propose that the Cardinals go all in and offer Colby Rasmus, Tyrell Jenkins, Pete Kozma, and Seth Blair. These players all have high ceilings and should be attractive to the half heartedly rebuilding Rockies.

Even thought the Rasmus's ceiling is high, I don't see Rasmus and his antics playing a role in the Cardinal's future. Tyrell Jenkins is very good but has atleast 3 years of development left. Kozma has talent but is yet to prove him self as someone who can make consistent contact and Blair is just another attractive arm.

Let me hear what you guys think. Also, check out my personal Red Sox blog if you like the writing displayed here.
