If a goalie is down for a while and needs treatment, do they have to leave the game and get called back on (like any other player)?
Rules don't really, y'know, apply to goalies, so the refs give them leeway
When they come out to punch out a ball, they can basically do whatever they want to any opposing players in their way.

I just saw the French defender and goalie down – defender had to go off until being called back on because the trainers came out- I didn’t know if it was a tactic by her to stay down and need the trainers so the goalie didn’t have to go off…or something?
If more soccer was played this way all the time
(even though there’s only been 1 goal), the general sports lovers in the US would enjoy the sport a lot more. There was a lot of action, back and forth – yet still very good defense and very good individual play.

That last play was mostly luck, but a lot of the issue was Brazil's formation
An “o” denotes US player and “x” denotes Brazil player. Instead of playing a flat back four like basically every team in the men’s game, Brazil plays with 5 in the back with a sweeper, so that last play looked like this

With a flat back four, Wambach would’ve either been offsides, or the CB and the LB would have converged on Wambach. With the sweeper formation, though, the players were confused on if it was the CB’s responsibility to mark Wambach, or if the sweeper would cover over and mark her once she got back that initial line of defense. The sweeper covered the right side instead, and in doing so, played Wambach onsides, which allowed her to get the header off

up 2-0 against a very talented offensive team very late in the game…not let anyone get behind you, takes away the sides of the net for little deflections (like that goal there) and the goalie can take everything in between…

This happened in a Galaxy/Earthquakes match a few weeks ago haha
Galaxy’s first keeper, Ricketts went out with an injury. They put in the backup. He was holding the ball, and Lenhart comes up and heads the ball out of his hands. Goalie elbows Lenhart in the face, gets a red card.
Galaxy put in 5’7 forward Mike McGee in the goal for the first of the game, which ends up tied 0-0
