I won't deny that it's well made and that House is a great character
but it’s so formulaic that I feel like if you’ve seen one episode you’ve seen them all.
Disagree
Maybe in the most simplified way (team has patient with unknown disease, team eventually cures patient), but the strength of the show is in the dialogue and the relationships between characters. If you’re watching for the plot, you’re missing out.
Also, there are many personal subthreads in each episode that often carry over from previous episodes.

Maybe I haven't watched enough of the show, but it seems like the personal subthreads lack drama
The only life/death situations are those that involve the patients, but the way that portion of the show is handled is so predictable.
Maybe it has great characters, but characters alone won’t do it for me. I need them to be in an engaging plot if I’m going to stay interested. Hell I’d rather have bland characters as long as the plot was amazing.
It's not meant to that serious
The personal subthreads are often of the joking variety – and often serious as well.
Hell I’d rather have bland characters as long as the plot was amazing.
I guess we just have different criteria for what makes a good show. For me the plot barely means anything.

So Ken Rosenthal says that he thinks the Rockies and Cards are a match
in a trade due to the Rocks having 7 SP Ubaldo Jimenez, Jorge De La Rosa, Aaron Cook, Jason Hammel, Jhoulys Chacin, Esmil Rogers and Felipe Paulino.
He also mentions that Colorado has an overload of MIF Chris Nelson, Eric Young Jr., Jonathan Herrera, Ty Wiggington and Jose Lopez. all competing for the 2B job.
So assuming Jimenez, Chacin, and Delarosa are off limits who out of that crowd would you want in STL?

well FIP is a nice stat, but it doesn't mean a lot if a guy can't
consistently get results. Hammel had a stretch of 33 scoreless innings last year, but had too many games where it all went south.

Well that just shows that the Rockies front office is dumb
Because A) Most of that is due to his early time with the Rays. The past three years his ERA is ~4.6. There is no reason why you would look at his 2006 and 2007 seasons are particularly meaningful going forward.
And B) His peripheral stats are much better than his ERA, which means his ERA is much more likely to go down in the future.
Skip Schumaker is a scapegoat
by vivaelpujols on Feb 25, 2011 1:36 AM EST up reply actions
well they were smart enough to get Hammels
from the rays for a mid grade P prospect, smart enough to have Apodaca work with him on control issues, if they can get him to avoid the one big inning he should be a decent 3-4 starter. If Matzek and Friedrich progress then Hammels will be expendable by 2013, hopefully they get some value if they do dump him.
~ Love is the most important thing in the world, but baseball is pretty good too ~
for that matter I am surprised neither of you wanted Esmil Rodgers
~ Love is the most important thing in the world, but baseball is pretty good too ~
my only reason for that would be that i assumed that he was a prospect type
not the kind of guy i would expect Mo to trade for in this situation.
True he is basically a younger Paulino
with better stuff. Hammels is 28, Paulino 27, and Rodgers is 25 so none are young but all are younger than a lot of great pitchers were when they “got” it. Rodgers is a converted SS so he actually is still learning how to pitch.
~ Love is the most important thing in the world, but baseball is pretty good too ~
I mean I would love to have Rodgers if not just because of his control/ GB%
I just can’t see Mo trading for these guys with 4+ years of control left when he probably wants something short term like Cook who would probably cost less.
If they ate half of cooks contract he would be nearly free
~ Love is the most important thing in the world, but baseball is pretty good too ~
Hammel's xFIP the past two years is 3.81
And his ERA is 4.6. That’s not a huge difference considering home ballpark.
Skip Schumaker is a scapegoat
by vivaelpujols on Feb 25, 2011 1:32 AM EST up reply actions
hammels will cost more
paulino has 200 odd innings in the majors
he throws 94-97
he is super interesting, a lot of walks.
also he’s out of options so it’s probably best for the rockies to trade him now.
They are hoping Bob Apodaca can work the same magic with him
that he did with DeLaRosa a few years back
~ Love is the most important thing in the world, but baseball is pretty good too ~

~ Love is the most important thing in the world, but baseball is pretty good too ~

boggs also never had a k/9 above 7.8 in the minors which will need to change
considering he walks batters at around a 4 bb/9 rate.
just because he throws 99 doesn’t make him any more special than ryan franklin.
your facts don't crush the dream!
I’m searching for little nuggets of hope here and I think Boggs’ stuff translates to a reasonable little nugget of hope that he can take a step forward and help lock down some of the extra innings our starters won’t be able to cover.
