Chungking Express

Eggnog and Bourbon, huh? Never thought I’d see those three things in the same sentence. You are a complex man.

all of it a surprisingly good mix. right now there's

Someone covering “dreams” by the cranberries in Mandarin on the soundtrack. It sounds much better in Mandarin.

The Cranberry cover is by Faye Wong

She’s a CanoPop star and played the character, Faye, who worked at “The Express” food stall. I like the version as well. I moved to Hong Kong last year and after watching the movie, I went to Chungking Mansion for a look around. Every bit as seedy as the movie portrays. The Express food stall is no longer there having been replaced by a 7-11.

is "dreams" actually in cantonese then? too bad about the stall.

I liked this a lot, though it doesn’t measure up to “in the mood for love.”

Just pulled up the song the computer

I think it’s Cantonese because I can’t understand a single word of it, where as I understand some Mandarin. However Faye Wong is originally from Beijing so it is conceivable that she could sing it in Mandarin.

per wikipedia, it could be either.

Apropos for this crowd, she recorded the theme to final fantasy VIII, apparently: “eyes on me.”

Not great as a theme song.

Actually quite effective during the spaceship scene, though. Nineteen year old Aaron teared up a little.

I can do no wrong, for I do not know what it is.

So if Beltran ends up taking 3/42 or something, are we ok with that?

Granted teams seem to be smarter about older players these days, but interest in Beltran seems to be growing so it might take a longer term commitment.

Prefer 2 years + option

But someone will give him 3 years.

Who's faster home to first? Yadi or Torty?

by huja on Dec 14, 2011 3:22 AM EST up reply actions

Well, if a team paid him 42 Million, they'd be hoping he'd give them at least 9.3 WAR

Spread out over three years, that’s an average of about 3.1 WAR per year. He was worth 4.7 last year, but will be 35 years old by the beginning of next season. Assuming a half-win drop in value per year, you’re looking at 4.2, 3.7, and 3.2 WAR during the contract, adding up to a total of 11.1 WAR, so a 42 million dollar deal is not completely crazy from that angle. The problem is that with his age and prior injury history, the risk of a catastrophic type injury and/or rapid decline is fairly high.

I think I’d go to about 3 years and 33 million, but not much higher.
