2011 World Series: Game 6 canceled after pressure from meteorologists, Chris Carpenter
The St. Louis Cardinals announced Wednesday that Game 6 of the 2011 World Series would be postponed because starting pitcher Chris Carpenter "did not give a [Carpenter]" about weather patterns that suggested the game might be playable under regular season circumstances.
Carpenter, who could appear in a potential Friday night Game 7, walked into John Mozeliak's Busch Stadium office and declared himself "Head of the [Carpentering] Weather Committee, Chairman of the [Carpentering] Cancel-the-Game Board, Dear [Carpentering] Leader of the Permanent Juche Revolution! [Carpenter]!" an office that had earlier belonged to MLB Commissioner Bud Selig.
Game 6 will be played Thursday night, pending further review from the Cancel-the-Game board. Game 7 has been moved to Friday night, a move which potential Game 7 starter Kyle Lohse described as, "Okay, so long as we're not bumping Fringe. Are we bumping Fringe? Hey, did you ever hear if there was going to be another X-Files movie? The second one was just okay, but I'd totally watch another one."

You know what's terrifying?
Three of those have happened before, two analogous situations have happened before, and I’ve advocated for trying yet another.
Freese at C, Molina at 1B, and Pujols at 2B have all happened, TLR has used a SP in left and a second baseman at P, and I remember saying prior to 2010 that if Freese can’t hold up they should try Holliday at 3B.

“Head of the [Carpentering] Weather Committee, Chairman of the [Carpentering] Cancel-the-Game Board, Dear [Carpentering] Leader of the Permanent Juche Revolution! [Carpenter]!”
Those P-D articles make so much more sense now.
If Albert can call his own hit & run ...
then cancel the “hit” portion of the hit & run after the pitch was already airborne then me thinks Albert has the authority to cancel a world series game in which he is a participant. Could the game really take place without Albert? Perhaps Carp put in a profanity laced recommendation to King Albert, which was very persuasive.

I love SOA
Kurt Sutter is the showrunner (he wrote on The Shield all seven seasons). Loosely based on family struggles theme in Hamlet. (Dead father speaking to son, Mother and Stepfather and son fighting each other)
The first season is pretty good, but then the plotlines really pick up in Seasons 2, 3, and 4.

Big yes on SOA! Outstanding show and really does the best of any show on TV at building drama throughout the whole season. Every season has been amazing.

Passenger describing first trip on the new 787:
There were speeches and sake in Tokyo, much bowing, many platitudes and an exhausting protocol of laboured courtesies before the Dreamliner went on its Japanese way. The director of Tokyo’s Narita Airport wished us a “happy fright”, fire tenders sprayed a watery arch with their hoses and when the aircraft left the ground everyone clapped. Four hours later, when it landed in Hong Kong, to more fire hoses and two dragons cavorting on the tarmac, everyone clapped again.

And yeah, I know Carp’s opinion of my opinion.

but hopefully, if we get there, he’ll be bad-ass.
it is what it is, not what we thought it'd be
that would likely mean carp screwed up
if he’s rolling through 3 innings just ride him as long as you can. if he doesn’t have it go to lohse. literally has to be no leash though. any sort of jam within the first couple innings i hope they pull him
I think Lohse for 2-3 innings, throwing at 100%, would probably be pretty good.
Lots of mediocre starters make great relievers.
and lohse FWIW has been pretty good early in games/first time through the order
i don’t know how much to take from that but he usually gets through the order once easily then starts hanging his changeup and gets smoked. with all the slop he throws maybe they just start to sit on it or something. or maybe its all random, but its been a pattern lately.

Just doing work. Season recap stats for all the players and the team as a whole, but the stats program we use, for whatever reason, doesn’t have an “export” button so I have to type them all in manually.
So that’s 34 games in a season x ~12 players

Hoosier ( /ˈhuːʒər/) is the official demonym for a resident of the U.S. state of Indiana. Although residents of most U.S. states typically adopt a derivative of the state name, e.g., “Indianan” or “Indianian”, natives of Indiana rarely use these. Indiana adopted the nickname “Hoosier State” more than 150 years ago.1 “Hoosiers” is also the nickname for the Indiana University athletic teams. Hoosier is sometimes used in the names of Indiana-based businesses and organizations. In the Indiana High School Athletic Association, seven active athletic conferences and one disbanded conference have the word Hoosier in their name.
In other parts of the country, the word has been adapted to other uses. In St. Louis, Missouri, the word is used in a derogatory fashion similar to “hick” or “white trash”.2 “Hoosier” also refers to the cotton-stowers, both black and white, who move cotton bales from docks to the holds of ships, forcing the bales in tightly by means of jackscrews. A low-status job, it nevertheless is referred to in various sea shanty lyrics. Shanties from the Seven Seas3 includes lyrics that mention hoosiers.
I never knew Hoosier was just a derogatory in STL
Wait, it's seriously not raining in stl at all?
That’s pretty funny. Also, the airlines took pity on me and let me change tickets at the same price, so if Game 7 happens, I still get to go.

as far as the icing
don’t leave it on for more than 20 minutes at a time and only about once an hour. After it starts to thaw out some start working it around some: make circles in each direction in as much of a pain free range of motion as you can. As you get more motion in it you can start doing the ankle alphabet. Pretend like you are drawing with your toed and draw out the alphabet on the floor.
Hope it gets better quick

Helps with draining the blood from your foot
There isn’t much muscle/fat in the foot to absorb all the blood that is pooling.
I’m a pro at hurting my ankles. If you show to the game tomorrow I’ll see if I can find you and let you know another thing that helps push the swelling up into your leg to help speed the absorbing up.

I sprained it bad in a basketball game years ago, and the dr said that would help the recovery a bit. It wasn’t very pleasant, so I sometimes have wondered how much difference it could really have made.
by Merry CRasmus on Oct 27, 2011 12:10 AM EDT up reply actions
you get better surface area contact with submersion
you also get the compressive effects of the water on the ankle. With contrast baths (hot and cold alternating) the theory is that you are getting alternating vasoconstriction and vasodilation which helps to pump out the swelling. Evidence isn’t real strong for contrast baths, FWIW.

Loved TLR on the OBP cult today: “On-base percentage is one of the most dangerous concepts of the last 7, 8 years…”
More TLR on OBP: “It forces some executives, coaches and players to think it’s all about getting on base by drawing walks…”

St. Louis, along with Baltimore, is one of the only major U,S. cities
that is an independent city – in other words, it split from St. Louis county, and no longer is part of a county. For census purposes, the population is measured as just the city itself (320k), which due to the split encompasses only a small geographic area. If you wanted a fair comparison of the size of St. Louis in relation to other major US cities, you’d have to include much of St. Louis County as well (1 mil)

He wants some St. Louis food, and having not lived there in 15 years and never spending much time downtown I don’t know if/where we can get some toasted ravioli or other good stuff within walking distance of Union Station or the stadium. We won’t have time to do anything that isn’t right in the area.
Also, in case of victory/defeat, where is the party /pity party at in the area?
Imo's works
can do that after the game since they are open late. Is the pasta any good there? I only remember the pizza and ravioli.

Now I have to find a way to watch the games that doesn’t include a personal media blackout and MLB Condensed games.
Worse, a Friday night Game 7 (if necessary) means I have no way at all of watching, only finding out Sat. night after the fact.
The good news is…
