enjoyed the books, mostly (would have preferred better prose, and particularly less self-consciously olde-fashionede diction, but I could just live with it) but the amount of rape/general creepiness was the big complaint I came away with. Somebody has to win game 3...

then there’s a 50% chance that winner wins game 4, and a 50% the winner of games 3 and 4 wins game 5… So why wouldn’t it be 25%? Plus Pujols resigning is a 50-50 proposition, so…

12.5% chance Pujols last act in Busch is committing an error to lose a World Series game. Sorry…

even the blowouts were intense. I didn’t relax until the 9th inning of Game 6 when they had a 6 run lead.

Cardinals definitely played like the better team in that series (offense, defense, relief), but several of those games were pretty taut (esp. the ones in StL).

Yeah, it’s still just 1-1, we’ve been resilient, etc. Not the end of the world, sure. But this is a tough loss to swallow. Three outs away from going up 2-0 in the series and putting Texas in a position where they have to win four out of five. And we’ve wasted a fabulous start by Jaime. Lots of blame to go around — players failing to execute, and more curious decisions by Tony.

Still, they’ve been two great, competitive ball games. Just hope we’re not going to regret giving this one away…

But I look at it like…. we should have scored more than 1 run. In a 1 run game the bloop hit and a “mistake” can beat you…and it did tonight.

Albert and Holliday really need to break out in Texas! If Jon Jay is going to bat in front of Albert he needs to start getting on base to get the line going. We just couldn’t get guys on base tonight in front of the big guys and just couldn’t get a big inning. We need to score early and often in Texas!

I'm sure a bunch of very casual fans that don't usually go to games

got tickets through business partners or via “company perks” and such make up a good chunk of it. At least that’s the way it used to be when it came to World Series games.

I'm not watching the postgame stuff on the cable nets

But I am a little curious…are they saying Texas has it wrapped up now? I kind of expected to hear some of that so I decided to turn it off.

Oh, I just thought that was one of those narratives that everybody talks about.

Since so many people have poo-poo’d that idea, I didn’t think it could possibly be real.

End of mojo?

Anyone else as concerned as I am about the happy flight streak ending? To loose that streak in such a heartbreaking fashion and have to get on a sad flight and wait an extra day to play 3 games on the road….really have a bad feeling that the good morale that’s got us here is going to be lost.

It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great.

I'm not as concerned about the mojo

as I am with Loshe and Jackson pitching in a hitters park like Rangers Ballpark in Arlington to be really honest. I have a feeling we are going to have to score plenty to win those games.

OT: as some of you may know, girlfriendup is currently working in a prefectural office in japan that's in a sister-state relationship with indiana

she’s been doing a ton of translating and interpreting recently ahead of an official state trip the governor and some of the people in her division will be making to indiana, where gov. fukuda of tochigi will meet mitch daniels of indiana.

I just got an e-mail from her saying that her months of work have come down to this: commemorative tochigi-indiana friendship canned bread.

this: this is why I love japan.

Tony's had a pretty great postseason so far

Yeah, it didn’t work out tonight, but his early use of the bullpen is actually a great strategy IMO. Good lineups as well.

Just got home from the game...

TLR took the wind out of the ballpark when he took Sauce out and brought in Chester A Arthur. Overall it was a great experience for my first World Series game. Although, I can’t believe I was 30 feet away from Curt Schilling and didnt get to punch him in his face so he could bleed (ketchup) on his pink shirt.

Sooo close to 2-0

3 outs away. Man, even 2 hours later I am still sick to my stomach. I guess I should have learned by now given the way this team has played the last month that they would not make it easy. The next two games are scary with Lohse and EJax, but then again we aren’t exactly facing Halladay/Lee. You really just have to hope to split the next two and then have Carp pitch the pivotal game 5. It’s far from the end of the world, but these types of games are just deflating.

I had a bad feeling when the top of the 9th started

The fact that it was the top of the order for the Rangers and Motte just seemed due to give up a big hit. Although I was actually expecting either a home run or gapper rather than a bloop. As hot as Motte has been I have no problems with him pitching the 9th at all…I just couldn’t get over the feeling that he was due to give up a big hit.

But as I said before we really should have scored more than one run. The margin for error is real slim against a team like the Rangers in a 1-0 game going to the 9th. Sadly it just didn’t work out tonight. I just hope our offense gets going in Texas. I would love to see a repeat of the crooked numbers we put up in Milwaukee. We are going to need them I bet.

I didn't

Motte has been invincible and after Kinsler it was 3 of their least dangerous hitters right now.

by Wombat x on Oct 21, 2011 2:09 AM EDT up reply actions

The good and the bad

Well if Tony gets the credit for getting us here, he gets a lot of blame for this loss. The of was playing too deep, Motte should have been left in and Fresse should have stayed in the game longer. Oh yeah Punto should have been told to take a pitch or two.

While I think the Rangers are a better team, thus far the Cardinals have played better by a fair margin. I do think our hitters are getting a bit anxious with runners in scoring position, but the Cardinals are hitting the ball better overall than the Rangers.

One thing that I must admit

is that most of this post season whenever Holliday comes up I feel like it’s an automatic out or double play. I know he is playing with nerve damage and does have a couple hits but I wish I didn’t think this because I really like Matt. He just seems so off right now. He has really swung and some bad pitches and doesn’t seem like the Matt Holliday we have seen the past couple of years. I really hope he can turn it around soon.

i dunno, i mean it might be beneficial for you to fact check before you say this kind of stuff

his line in october is pretty much what he’s been his whole career and even if you only want to look at the last few games, he’s been pretty much on fire

hell, he was on base twice tonight in 4 PAs

by prophetjohn on Oct 21, 2011 2:24 AM EDT up reply actions

Great point and you are right

But he still seems a bit off to me. I think a lot of it is being anxious at the plate. His timing just seems off to me. He has been able to get on base with walks like tonight. I do have a feeling he is going to come up big in Texas.

Anyone know anything about this Harrison guy

All I know is he throws pretty hard but has spotty control…

by Wombat x on Oct 21, 2011 2:51 AM EDT reply actions

Am I the only one who doesn't feel bad about last night's loss?

I woke up pretty much writing yesterday off to BABIP hell. That’s not to take anything away from the Rangers, but with most of their hits coming off soft ground balls at the perfect spot and a couple bloops, combined with the Cards’ smoking quite a few hits but right at someone (not to mention a handful of “would’ve-been-homeruns-in-any-other-park-in-slightly-warmer-weather” hits), I honestly don’t feel like last night is anything to worry over. Which isn’t saying I think we are guaranteed a WS title, just that there is no reason to panic, blame TLR, etc. It was a close game, we had some bad luck offensively, and Texas came up with a much better spot of their lineup in the 9th, and earned their win. But it’s been two close games, so the Cards have shown they can keep pace.
