Story on the Pujols/La Russa/Rasmus mess
at Yahoo. Be forewarned it was written by Jeff Passan, and rumor has it he’s an asshat.
That's no rumor.
Asshattery: it's an epidemic.
Second base….I’ve played second base, how hard can it be? -TLR
Also, Dave Concepcion.
is it good?
I don’t want to a read anything by that asshat if it’s not neccesary.
Fire Tony La Russa
it's just regurgitation.
Nothing new.
Asshattery: it's an epidemic.
Second base….I’ve played second base, how hard can it be? -TLR
Also, Dave Concepcion.
Basically he says if TLR leaves, so will the Mang
Baseball makes the world go 'round, or at least in my world it does.
title is "as TLR goes, so might Pujols"

I didn't anything new
just some speculation

Pujols said how much TLR
has meant to him developing as a player and person, and he hoped he could play his whole career for him. Same thing he’s said for 5 years now.

and i'm sure if larussa quits
albert’s world will crumble and he will retire
give him the benefit of the doubt
..i miss ludriguez-wick..
It has a quote from La Russa I don't remember seeing before, although the gist of it isn't that
shocking. "My favorite team is the team that has a nice mix. You have some veterans and some young guys who are enthusiastic. They don’t get hurt as much. They want to learn. They don’t have all the answers. I enjoy the young players. If you have a totally young club, you’re probably going to be at a competitive disadvantage at some point because you’re learning to lose games. Experience is an equalizer."
Also a quote from Albert about how awesome TLR is, a rehash of run-ins TLR has had with other players (Rolen, Drew, Edmonds – how come nobody mentions Kerry Robinson anymore…?), and more speculation about how it will be hard for the Cards to field a competitive team with so much salary locked up in Holliday, Pujols (assuming he re-signs), and Wainwright and/or Carp.

without reading the story, and just reading the headline

for real
the only thing more disappointing than missing the playoffs is missing them while your competition is trying to hand you the spot
we would have been only 2 games behind
but nooooo… why win when we can embarrass ourselves instead
..i miss ludriguez-wick..
I've said that a lot this season
It’s true, but it sure gets tiring to repeat that and some variation of, we have shit timing.

Screw al
I love how he believes that albert can do no wrong. Brendan had a legitimate shot at throwing him out and had Albert vacated the bag to catch the ball there wouldn’t have been a problem. All al seems to do is regurgitate whatever he hears “all Colby tries to do is pull the ball” and so on.
On a side note Albert seems to not give a shit about anything. He may be hurt but at least show some effort.

Then you get into the agony..
of driving in Atlanta, plus the proliferation of hi-def wide screens… I’m surprised 30,000 go.
Fire La Russa!
Yeah I think the hi-def wide screen TVs
have really hurt sports attendance.
Another thing I think that has hurt Cincinnati Reds attendance is the constant construction on I-75 between Dayton (where a large number of Reds fans come from) and Cincy. It’s a nightmare to drive that stretch of highway.

Still trying to wrap my brain around the fact that Wainwright has 10 losses this year,
including four in his last four starts. I realize wins/losses aren’t the best measure of a pitcher’s performance (although he certainly hasn’t been great the last several starts), but I still find it surprising.
How many runs did Waino receive in support during that losing streak. . . ?

Good show, TBender. Putrid support has to affect the way you pitch as well. In short, team scored more today than in the time Waino pitiched over the four losses.
An optimist is a man who upon discovering that a rose smells better than a cabbage concludes it will make better soup.
HL Mencken
Not pretty, needless to say
2-3-2-1 against Wolf, Maholm, Lannan, and Wood. The only decent pitcher was the last one, so the offense really shit the bed. On the other hand, Wainwright had a 6 ERA against two of the worse offenses in the NL (Pitt and Wash) during that stretch, so he wasn’t exactly on fire. Still, he obviously deserved better if W/L is supposed to be a meaningful stat….
by BTown Birds fan on Sep 9, 2010 9:45 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah, it's not a rational thing, and I know it doesn't comport with modern baseball stats
It’s more a gut-level reaction to seeing a guy who’s pitched as well as he has this year losing 10 games (see Roger Clemens, 2005). Doesn’t really mean much, just a weird stat.

NL historians
when was the last classic collapse down the stretch? The one that I vaguely remember was several years ago, perhaps 5-10? I know the Mets melted down once, but I am thinking Phillies? I keep on repeating the mantra, Cincinatti will melt down, Cards will rise. Please.

At least Rasmus made him pay.
