Regular gamethread? You wish!!! The bumbling danup from your timeplane is probably busy waiting outside a Pac Sun for the new Weezer album to leak, or anonymously reviewing fanfiction on Astronomy Tower! What a nerrrrrd! Never fear: Futuredanup/Lovesounds is here to provide some gamethread action in your humorously primitive, pre-thoughtnet lives! Time for some mystifying future haiku!

We get to a must win game and La Russa...
finally gets serious about lineup construction.
Here are the Cards’ #2 and #5 hitters over the past four games: Miles, Miles, Feliz, Feliz, Winn, Molina, Rasmus, Jay. Tonight it’s Rasmus and Jay and I’ll bet anything we don’t see Miles or Feliz hitting directly ahead of or behind Pujols/Holliday again this series.
This is why LaRussa must go: he puts his love of Aaron Miles and his dislike of Rasmus ahead of the team, ahead of winning. He’s about to turn 66 and he’s giving in to his worst tendencies.

It's kind of ironic, because I joined VEB to question a comment I saw about Chapman's mechanics.
But now I’m over it.
Guess I will.
I think his mechanics are very sound, now especially. In Spring Training, I had concerns. Now my only concern is he pitches, and he pitches very had.

So this is the first game I've seen Colby since he's been back.
I’ve been stuck at work the last few games.
He watched that slider down and in in his last at bat which is his classic sweet spot. I’ve also noticed he’s swing at a ton of outside fastballs. It looks to me like he’s trying to dump a bunch of balls into left field. Maybe I’m paranoid but I don’t like what I’m seeing.
Silly humans, this world is for robots.
The outside swings could also be due to (anecdotal warning) that pitch always being called a strike against him.
I don't recall noticing this before.
I couldn’t believe he took the pitch down and in.

I’m also saying that I don’t recall him swinging at so many balls on the outer third (or off) the plate. It’s not just that one pitch I’m making the observation about. I’m trying to watch his overall approach at the plate tonight and something seems different. It could just be an off night for him — but I’m still going to comment about it.

The #9 tastes like someone dumped a pixie stick into it. The rest of the Magic Hats aren’t bad, but I wasn’t impressed.
Schlafly Irish Extra Stout however, is exceedingly yummy, as is their Oktoberfest. The Kolsch is great if I’m planning to drink 6+. The Export IPA is superb. Schlafly is by far not the best indie brew in the country, but they’re better than Magic Hat, IMO.

I'm not sure where this is coming from..
The only hype around Chapman is that he’s good at throwing hard and has been successful with a slider in relief so far. Heyward or, to a lesser degree, Posey are the typical favorites. Garcia has obviously been the best pitching rookie this year, and it’s not really close.
You are forgeting about when Strasburg cured SARS in one inning
and pissed pure agave tequilla in the next. It was during the game when he only struck out 26 batters, so nobody really remembers it. But there’s your ROY.

Sorry...
gotta have your sarcasm meter up. It’s all hype when it comes to ROY, and right now, Chapman is winning.
Fire La Russa!
He'll be a rookie next year, so he'll drop from any conversation quickly.
Next year, though, be prepared.
He'll have to actually start in the majors next year to be considered.
I think he’ll need time in AAA next year before he’s ready to start for the Reds. They really have no reason to rush him.
True, but if he's somewhat successful in September, will the organization have the stones to start him in AAA next year?
He'll be having that success as a reliever.
They’ll need to stretch him back out in ST, obviously, and see if he can make that changeup of his a workable pitch. If all goes absolutely according to plan, then he’ll start for the Reds next year. But, I think they’ll want to give him time in AAA to re-learn starting before he is thrown to the fire. It’s too early to say he’s Randy Johnson 2.0 :)
wah..
guys are coming up mid-season and winning this thing all the time. Braun, Howard, Posey etc…
Fire La Russa!
Don't count on Posey winning it, although he'll get votes.
I mean, the voters are pretty clueless. Edinson Volquez got a few votes in his 17-6 season and he was a 3rd year player I believe.

Pretty nice game tonight, Cardinals fans.
Didn’t care for the whole throwing the foul ball back onto the field, but your guys seem to have our number this year.
I’m not sure of the Cardinal fan base opinion of the rotation shuffling… seems kinda silly, forced Suppan to take an extra start, etc. Just wondering what you guys think.
is that true? anyone?
thats just basing it on normal rotation for the next 30 games right?…but if it comes down to the end and someone has to pitch on 4 days…3 days rest we will have to do it
by guillermozeliak on Sep 4, 2010 3:21 AM EDT up reply actions
I meant the game before the Reds series started.
No idea how it’ll work the rest of the way, if Suppan is even part of your normal 5-man rotation.
It puts them at a disadvantage against weaker teams, I guess, is my point.
If you beat the Reds, that’s great for you guys, but in the long run it seems to have benefitted the Reds. Without an off day going forward, seems ike a questionable decision.
So he's gonna finish out the season pitching on normal rest?
Hope it works out.. he could hit a wall. But, he’s been strong so far.

I somehow think the economy in StL is much better than it is in Cincinnati.
I also, arbitrarily, feel like the metropolitan area is more condensed.
the cities are the same size.
st louis’ metro area is about 900,000 people larger than cincy’s. yes, st louis is bigger, but not by that much. still doesn’t explain why you guys can’t get more than 15,000 people to show up to watch a first place team…

side note
why does ohio suck? both cincy and cleveland complain of being dirt poor.

I have trouble really believing either thing
The car industry was a big deal in St. Louis, and the metro area involves crossing three major rivers
They say that it's never too late, but you don't get any younger...
actually, there are very few people in the city proper
mostly, people are dispersed around the suburban sprawl.
If knowledge is the key, then just show me the lock.
Got the scrawny legs but I move just like Lou Brock.
either way, there is a very strong argument against cincy
Cardinals on September 20, 2006 drew 40,000+ fans despite the fact that they had the division locked up basically and they were coming of an 8 game losing streak… Cincy drew less than 15,000 on August 30 when they were in first…. interesting

actually the Natti is a lot better off
i dont understand though why attendance figures matter. the reds haven’t been good since 1999, and before that it was 1990. a lot has happened in since then & they simply don’t have the fan base they used to have. ohio has become more football obsessed than ever, with mostly OSU, the bangles & the browns, steelers & colts. the indians have had many winning seasons, the bearcats have been very successful in basketball & now football, UK is always good in basketball & now Louisville is as well along with having a good football program. Xavier is good at basketball. Miami, OU, Bowling Green, WV all have made serious runs in both football & basketball. sports fans in the region have a lot more to keep their attention than just the reds. it doesn’t surprise me one bit they don’t have a larger attendance.
but the Cardinals are really the only thing all of the STL cares about. yes the rams had their run & sure mizzou & illinois have their’s. but the Cardinals are St Louis. it’s a totally different world from the Natti & i don’t see why people keep trying to compare the two. they are apples & oranges.
All I've got is a broken heart, memories & dreams that I can't drink away
and i left out Toledo's run with football, UD & OSU in basketball & Marshall in both
and the Lebron James effect he had on the Cavs fan base. and the fact that the Cardinals bring in a lot of people from all over the mid west, Ark, Iowa, Ks, Ill, Tenn, Ky, Ok, Tx, NB, Col, & on & on. the reds are lucky if they bring in fans from three states, there’s no way they can bring in fans from 5 states away like the Cardinals do.
the point is still the same, there are far more Cardinal fans than there are reds fans. you simply cannot compare the two teams & how many fans show up to watch their games on a nightly basis
All I've got is a broken heart, memories & dreams that I can't drink away
and there are more colleges i forgot Butler, Purdue, Notre Dame, Pitt

fans yes, i'm not saying a die hard reds baseball fan has since 1990 stopped being a fan
i’m saying the casual fan has forgotten about them because they have been so bad for so long. i was just pointing out how many other teams, both pro & college are within driving distance & are on local cable tv that have had more success since the reds were actually worth paying attention to. no one supports a loser & the reds have been one for the better part of two generations of fans. with all the other options close by, it doesn’t surprise me at all they never sell out & never even have a half full stadium. i’ve lived here for 25yrs, i’m 2 hours from great american launching pad & i’ve only met 1 die hard reds fan & he died 5yrs ago. they are never on the news, they are hardly mentioned about in the papers, they are not talked about on the radio or online. you could ask a 1000 people in down town columbus to name one guy in their pen & i doubt more than 10 could tell you a name. if there are baseball fans around here they are Indians & Yankee fans because the indians have actually been relevant recently & the AAA Clippers were the Yankee’s till 3yrs ago. the Clips are now the Tribes team & they actually do quite well crowd wise. they always did alright but now that a new down town stadium was opened last season they do more than alright.
no one, and i mean no one cares about the reds up here. especially now that OSU football has started & the no fun league starts up next weekend. and now you’re really not going to have anyone leaving work early on a tuesday & drive 2hrs down there to see a game. maybe that happened a few times on the weekends, but it will never happen now that football season has started. yes there are bandwagon jumpers, but those fans won’t stick with them if they dont win in the playoffs & will go away fast if they suck again next year.
with all the other options so close by, the reds really have lost out on a lot of fans & money by not at least trying once every 5 years to win. it’s going to take a lot more than one fluke summer of the Cards falling on their face to get their fans back. there’s just way too many better options around here for people to care about the reds. and again you can’t compare them to the Cardinals, the times have changed too much & now they aren’t even on the same planet.
All I've got is a broken heart, memories & dreams that I can't drink away
wtf did i become to f'ing long winded?
geesh even i’m not reading all of that

That's probably got some truth to it.
But, the Reds are getting their best TV ratings ever too, by a huge margin. Anything we really come up with is speculative.
ugh.
really?
