but wait there's more... a repost

Carp looms over The Cat, like a sabretooth tiger playing with its prey, and relates that he feels very good even for late in the season, thanks to the trainers; that he could hit Aaron Miles’…. pitches; and that no commercial compares to him talking to FSM.

The FSM producer tells him to STFU

Yeah Yeah Yeah. Big talk. You’ll sign Miles and some inept shortstop cause they are gritty. TLR has you over a barrel. The shortstop may have hit 10 homers 10 years ago.

once upon a time The Cat invited Al to a Cat Fight, but he was booked up and Al was spurned

so today, the producer fucked up many times over by telling Carp the wrong time, and then telling him to wrap it up, which Carp took exception to. to prevent any kind of unexpected homicide, they allowed Carp to take up the time, which then cut off Al again, and so they were giving The Cat a hard time.
and then there was something about chicken wings or something, and Cal Eldred showed up, and Dan kept sticking up with Al in a syrupy disgusting way.

The city was founded in 1938 by real estate developer and state legislator Homer C. Ludden, who named it after his hometown of Surprise, Nebraska.
As legend has it, the city of Surprise was named by Dr. Anthony Swanson. Upon arriving in the area now known as Surprise, his intention was to only stay a few months as he and his wife, Mary Louis Swanson, were on their way West in search of fortune. After several months another group of fortune seekers passed through the settlement. When one of the new comers asked Dr. Swanson what his village was called he answered, “as the tea kettle keeps whistlin’, I say, I’m surprised me and Mary are still here!”. The newcomer misheard the doctor and from that day on the village was known as Surprise.

I think Craig could be a 15-20 homer guy.

I would rather have a more consistent/decent set-up guy, so Pujolidamus have people to drive in besides themselves.

by Cards Fan in Chitown on Sep 29, 2010 3:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Apparently the anecdotal evidence is that something "clicked" last year in August or September

He made some adjustment to his swing that made it really really good at pulling balls for homers to left.

by Cards Fan in Chitown on Sep 29, 2010 3:47 PM EDT up reply actions

I dunno what to expect

Although, there seems to be such a pattern in his production this year that it is believable that it’s not some sort of crazy fluke. There is bound to be some regression—almost nobody is a “true 50 homer guy” in any sense. Pitchers could also figure something out and exploit it too. This is the big leagues after all.

Albert Pujols does not have "down" years. He has "~6 WAR" years.

by Cards Fan in Chitown on Sep 29, 2010 3:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Well he doesn't pop the ball up hardly ever

Depending on which analysis you believe, Votto has either ZERO popups to the infield this season, or just six popups to the infield.

"Read a fucking book." - Nucky Thompson

by cesarhernandez on Sep 29, 2010 3:42 PM EDT up reply actions

maybe he has mastered the art of making pop ups only go out for home runs?

and just hitting line drives? is maybe cincinnati easy to get on base when hitting the ball into play? the team BABIP is tied for first in the majors.

"Nah….He’s an infielder. Second base…..I played second base, how hard can it be?"

by Cards Fan in Chitown on Sep 29, 2010 3:46 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't know how the park effects play out

But it is an easy place to homer in, so that helps, but I think it would be tougher to hit doubles and triples. It’s not a huge outfield like in San Diego or Colorado…lot less ground to cover.

"Read a fucking book." - Nucky Thompson

by cesarhernandez on Sep 29, 2010 3:49 PM EDT up reply actions

I think what I was getting at is does the ball bounce around a lot, or is foul territory really big

I’m guessing not. probably just a fluke

also, fly balls that would be outs most places become home runs

and while they don’t count towards positive BABIP, they don’t count as outs, either.

Hasn’t really affected Votto though- he only has 2 cheap home runs at GABP this year, according to hit tracker.

Well, he's in there for his offense, after all.

It feels final to me.

To me, Mozeliak giving TLR a deadline to decide if he's coming back confirms the obvious

John is sick of having to run all his ideas by Tony, and he wants to get moving as quick as possible in the offseason.

i love that anderson, greene, hamilton, and craig had 8 hits between them (both XB hits from craig!)

"We were men - flesh and blood - and we played baseball in the sunshine. We hit doubles off the wall, slid hard into second base. We had fights, and we made love. We sang songs and prayed on Sundays. . . . We felt pain. And we felt joy. There was a lot wrong with the world. But we weren't sad, man. We had the times of our lives." Buck O'Neil, from "The Soul of Baseball: A Road Trip Through Buck O'Neil's America."
