For those of you missing Luddy.....

Since the trade, Jay has a higher OPS by about .075. Forgot the exact numbers, but something like .950 compared to .875.

Jay isn’t the problem. Will he regress? Yes. Two hitless games doesn’t make it a bad trade. Hell, SD didn’t even start Luddy today.

The problem with the 2006 Cardinals

was Izzy. Once he was replaced by Wainwright, problem solved.

I know, i know. It ain't gonna happen but...

If Cox is on the ML team and playing does it matter if we have an extra option year or not?

I only say this because Larussa was impressed by Cox (tee hee). Is it possible he has had enough of watching Lopez at 3B to ask Mo to pull a Leake?

COX IMPRESSIVE IN WORKOUT

Before he begins his trek to the Cardinals’ Gulf Coast League operation in Jupiter, Fla., 2010 top draft pick Zack Cox, a third baseman, impressed Cardinals manager Tony La Russa and general manage John Mozeliak during a brief workout this morning.
“I’m talking about the whole deal,” said La Russa. “He’s got nice hands. He’s got a storng arm. He looks like a player.”

The lefthanded-hitting Cox sprayed line drives to all parts of the field and hit two balls over the right-field wall.

“Obviously, he held his own pretty well with the bat,” said Mozeliak. “He looked quite comfortable.”

I hate it that

The Cardinals are 5th in the majors in in LD%, but right in the middle of the pack for BABIP.

Interestingly, our pitchers are 5th in the majors for lowest LD%, have the highest GB%, but only have the 9th lowest BABIP allowed.

That's kind of a results-based approach...

can’t we look at specific decisions he’s made and come to a determination as to whether they’re smart or not? What if we stumble along like this and make the playoffs b/c the Reds collapse? La Russa’s performance would still be what it is.

nope

allocating change for change sake. Shake things up. LaRussa makes some bad in game decisions but by all accounts he is one of the better mangers in prep leading up to the game.

This team is geared to win this year (and i guess next year too.) If they can’t do it I’m not sure if Tony really is going to be into it again and it may be time to start looking at a long term manager. Tony isn’t going to be around for to many more years…

nice little breeze
made me think i can be in the sun for 20 minutes without sunscreen
now i look like shellfish
prince fielder got the shit heckled out of him during BP – after the too-many-salads he actually turned around and yelled shut-up and later kottaras yelled how-many-do-you-have as an answer to stuff about his swing and where his line drives landed. i contemplated jumping in on the heckling for a minute, but it was too easy
westy seems to be cozying up with soup and carp
jaime garcia really really doesn’t like signing autographs
waino’s warmup seamed longer than usual, boog’s shorter than usual
very uninspired game
i don’t know if they showed it, but when the brewers scored the third run, where craig made the throw to the plate, yadi got mad, albert gestured to him as well, looked like they were both quite irritated
i hate it when pitchers hit my boog
looks like brewers were stalling in the 9th big time
especially during the waiting boog had to do, he seemed like he got more and more nervous, pacing, then went to dugout to ask pointers from mac
4 losses in a row – to cubs and brewers, i’m about to start freaking out
got to stadium 20 minutes late thanks to construction on all freaking highways so that’s all i got

My 2 cents

It was reported yesterday that the Giants would be trying to block the Cards from getting a 3rd baseman through waivers. I think the Cards have been sandbagging the last couple of days to get below the teams they are afraid are going to attempt to block a deal for someone and they’ll pick it back up soon. Anyone ever hear anything about Aramis Ramirez on waivers?

If D-Lee went on, I assume Aramis did. Bad production this year and not-good contract aside, I’d take him right now.

They've actually got some decent parts already up at the MLB level

but they’re a starting rotation away from contending.

They’re window closed hella fast and now all of a sudden they’re three years away again.

I thought they signed this guy specifically if things didn’t work out with Freese at 3rd. Can he not catch the ball? Why have they not given him a shot? Anyone have any idea? I don’t know much about him except he gets on base alot.

On another note, anyone think Glaus could still play some 3rd. It is possible that he ends up on waivers with their addition of Lee.

Looks like the Reds are the

Cinderella team this year. Every few years a team is like this. You know the clutch game winning HRs from unlikely players, coming back from 5-6 runs late in games, career rebounds from older players, ect. The Atlanta Braves had several teams like this in the early 90’s. The White Sox in 05 were similar as well.

Scary thing is when a team like this starts to roll….they usually don’t stop. Of course there is another month of ball to play….but I’m afraid our guys will be the ugly stepsister to this Cinderella REAL QUICK if something doesn’t change in the next 5-10 games.

44 games left

we’ll see

I could write pages about this but one thing is true: we got extremely unlikely finding out the demise of Freese after the trade deadline which made our westbrook trade even worse

and more luck has been on cincy’s side for their last 5 games than our own 4 games but im not making excuses…obv its coming down to the wire but we still win the division

I'm just hoping we are just having our annual "September swoon"

early this year in August and we can turn it around. It could start with Mo going out and getting us some type of help for 3rd. Somebody that can drive in some runs would be nice.

Seth Everett on ESPN podcast "if you wanna call the Red sox the most obnoxius fans in baseball then the Cardinals have to be in the sentence:

i rarely check these out and now probably wont ever again:

http://espn.go.com/espnradio/player?rd=1#/podcenter/?callsign=ESPNRADIO

but it starts at min 16:00

I dont think Seth understands the city of St. Louis (or boston for that matter)…first and foremost St. Louis is a baseball TOWN!! And he said, “ebecause we are in the midwest everything is happy and go lucky…because they dont” Boston has a completely different culture than St. Louis…yes we have the blues and rams but we are also one of the best soccer cities in the u.s. There are many relevant comparisons u can draw to St. Louis and how we love baseball…its like college football in the south…or more specifically what the Crimson Tide is to someone in Alabama or what cold weather is to an eskimo….

I just shook my head listening to Seth. He stated we have to be “in the dialogue” when talking about Sox’s fans being obnoxious since their rebirth in 04. “we (stl) are the same way being isolationists”

SETH: “I had one caller on my old XM radio station…” “Guy calls up the show saying ‘you forgot about Schumaker’ wearing his victory blue cardinal jersey”

hmm…how again do u see what someone wears on the radio???

Seth again referencing us that we unanimously agree “Schumaker is better than Cano and Pedroia”….shaking head again

Seth Everett’s guest Mark Simon was obviously wanting to be out of this discussion…although Simon mentioned his own opinion on philly fans.

Again my qoutes are pretty accurate but u can hear it for urself…for your own humor.
