“Everybody, they respect me for what I said,” Phillips said before Tuesday’s game. “Those are my comments. A lot of people feel that way all throughout the league. Many people feel that way.”
I’m interested to know who those people throughout the league are that feel the same way.

Shinguard tap
Phillips gave Yadi a “shinguard” tap to start the whole thing in the 1st inning. A Reds announcer said that it was a common way for a batter to greet a catcher. Has anybody heard this before?

Reds third baseman Scott Rolen went after Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter near the edge of the crowd, and the two wound up crunched against the backstop. Carpenter, who got the win in a 7-3 victory Monday night, got shoved into the backstop screen.
Reds starting pitcher Johnny Cueto ended up with his back against the backstop, kicking furiously to free himself from the mob.

the way they’re throwing the ball around this inning.
Daddy like.
This game and series
reminds me of this game and series, with Phillips playing the part of Zambrano. That season’s rivalry with the pre-season favorite Cubs was intense. And the “Pujols game” followed.
This is where I brag that I was at the Pujols Game in 04
It was everything glorious you would think. Staring at the scoreboard, Cards down 8-3, and KNOWING they would come back to win. Watching LaTroy Hawkins almost physically assault an umpire was the icing on the cake.

the biggest Cards/Reds fight ever…..Gibson almost hit Perez, they jawed, Bob Lee came out of the bullpen, Cepeda decked Lee, all hell broke loose……Gibson fought 3 players at the same time, they all tumbled into the dugout……good stuff….think it was in 67.
It WAS!
I was AT the game, as part of the old “Straight-A Student” promotion; fight lasted about 45 minutes… the Plagers woulda been proud!

Dusty dodged that one, because he surely would’ve called for it (anyone remember Reds up 3-0 last year, Dusty pitched to Albert in the 8th and well…in one swing it became 4-3)
Are you suggesting walking Albert with the bases loaded?

An attempt to clarify for those following online
Chopper by Holliday = hit; 2 runs score.
On throw to the plate attempting to nail 2nd runner the throw sailed + plus pitcher booted it a bit. This caused Holliday to bolt for 2nd. Pitcher throws to Phillips attemting to get Holliday, but meanwhile ever aggressive Albert storms home. Phillips ignore Holliday and fires it home. The catcher can’t field Phillips’ throw cleanly. Thus, 3 runs score. Holliday to 2nd.
by kalmavet on Aug 10, 2010 9:36 PM EDT reply actions 2 recs
Phillips did that correctly
he was totally right to try to throw out Pujols.
Gimpy leg or not Pujols was hauling ass. That’s such a typical Pujols thing to do, dare the other team to throw him out.
yeah Phillips made the right decision
that was a classic “make them execute” play by Albert. The catcher couldn’t handle the throw
twas the right play
awesome thing about it was Pujols basically beat Phillips on that play. Phillips did everything right, Pujols was just better than him.

Homer got the "Carp Glare" last year in St. Louis
Came out of the bullpen while Carp was throwing the 1st inning, delaying the game for a moment. Pujols knocked out Homer moments later with a line drive to the leg.
