St. Louis Cardinals at Colorado Rockies, Jul 8, 2010 3:10 PM EDT

Carpenter Jimenez
9-2, 3.16 14-1, really low*

Ubaldo Jimenez's

his name's tough to rhyme,
he can't hit half the time

Seriously, Rasmus' double was like an inch away from a homer

And Pujols drive was 380 feet. This is really pissing me off.

pretty articulate for a young kid. Besides, mellow Texan accent seems more intelligible to my ears.

He did explain the absence as working on some stuff, but then hurried to reassure that the elbow was fine, it was a little sore after some curveballs.

At which point I felt a little ill.

But otherwise, I was impressed. He was all business — he’s got to get the work done at his level, big honor to go to the Futures Game, and last but not least, the pro game is a grind and it’s like showing up to work to get the job done.

A highball glass full of bourbon is not a “cocktail.”

"We were men - flesh and blood - and we played baseball in the sunshine. We hit doubles off the wall, slid hard into second base. We had fights, and we made love. We sang songs and prayed on Sundays. . . . We felt pain. And we felt joy. There was a lot wrong with the world. But we weren't sad, man. We had the times of our lives." ive been holding on to the positive all year....

Oh its just a couple games back, albert will start bein albert, our injured guys will come back, the reds will regress, carp will be ok, mozeliak will get us help, the offense will turn it around, eveyone will eventually start hitting better as a team, our luck will turn around in some of these close games, we can’t keep gettin shutout, eventually we will sweep a series (or even win 3 straight)…….it goes on and on and right when we seem to maybe be turning the corner on one thing we fall right back down or another issue pops up. We just don’t look like a very good team. We had a nice start to the season and since then have just been a below avg team. We have been decent at home winning series against bad teams (usually) and then rly bad on the road. We seem to play good teams close but always end up blowing or loosing the game. I really feel like its a miracle we r even 5 games over .500. Cardinals r lucky thy aren’t completely out of it and could easily still make a run. There’s still a lot of games left. But right now I just can’t say the cardinals look like a team that is capable of making a run or turning it around, I really don’t expect that they will. Ppl will prob think I’m overreacting but the cardinals keep digging themselves in an even deeper hole and the issues keep piling up. Everyones been talkin about the attitude of the team being different, and I agree. they just don’t seem to play with any passion, esp on the road. And also like it was mentioned before, last years team was able to pull of 4-5 game winning streaks or take 7 of 9. This years team has not shown they can do that.

that you could put one defender anywhere in the infield, put a runner on first and less than two out, and Molina would find a way to GIDP

If you accept that Jimenez is getting lucky, I don't see why we should be praising him

Did he do something special to deserve such a low ERA? He’s pitched as well this year as about 20 other pitchers who aren’t being talked about as the best in baseball. Why is his good luck in any way impressive?

by vivaelpujols on Jul 8, 2010 5:53 PM EDT up reply actions

because of his 30ERs this year

17 came in the three games leading up to this one, he has a 1.23 road era and a sub 1 road WHIP

There have been many more fluff peices on Jimenez this year

Strasburg get’s hyped on his potential, which is deserving. Jimenez gets hype as being in his own class in comparison to the rest of the league, which is not deserving.

by vivaelpujols on Jul 8, 2010 5:42 PM EDT up reply actions

maybe you watch different stuff than I do but

considering you have a 26 old ace with a no-hitter and a low 2 ERA in an extreme hitters park I could see why people would talk.

Time is the best teacher; Unfortunately it kills all its students

by TomCat009 on Jul 8, 2010 5:45 PM EDT up reply actions

The no hitter doesn't mean anything

Dallas Braden had a perfect game FFS. It’s just a small sample size oddity, and he got incredibly lucky in that game. Just like he has been all season, which is my point.

Again, why no hype for Jaime? You have a 23 year old rookie with a low 2’s ERA. Or why no hype for Wainwright, who has a career ERA just over 3?

It’s because Jimenez throws hard and has a good W/L record. You think the hype would be the same if he had Jaime’s record?

My attacks on Jimenez is that he has not pitched as well as his results and he has not pitched as well as the hype he gets

That’s what I’ve been saying for about a month now and people keep trying to justify the hype (and sometimes the results).

Miles bein on this team is utterly ridiculous

I was at this game vs. Cincy earlier this year, Walters got ripped for 7 runs in 3IP. Cards fought back but then reyes gave it right back to them. The next inning we had a guy on 3rd with 1 out. Pitcher spot up, AC/DC back in black comes on…‘Pinch hitting: AARON MILES!!!!’ The Crowd fucking ROARS! My friend looks at me, “he got called up are you kidding me”, I respond “yea we need a sac fly y would he be hitting here anyway?”….my friend, “why is the hell is evryone cheering?”…..“Don’t know”

….Miles pops out to 2nd and we end up loosing the game. I didn’t know what to be more surprised by, the fact that Miles was actually batting for your 2010 Cardinals or the fact that he got the loudest cheer/biggest ovation I had heard/seen all year (and I’ve been to a lot of games)

by TomCat009 on Jul 8, 2010 7:28 PM EDT up reply actions

he's a good defender

just don’t know if he’ll hit enough to play a corner, and colby kind of has center locked up. he’s more valuable of course in center where he doesn’t need to hit as well, so he could definitely be a trade chip. i saw his single and double today, and both were a bit lucky – a bloop and a hard grounder to short that goes as a double in the book.

some power, not much

yeah, he’d fit san diego well, but probably somebody more for next year for them than this – i assume if they trade for an outfielder for the pennant race it will be at least a dejesus, which is likely jay’s upside.

I wonder if Pujols...

will have an hour long show to announce he’s signing with the Angels? I could see it if the proceeds went to a charity for Down’s Syndrome.

Hmmm, I feel like a jerk for some reason.

I just don’t feel sorry at all for Cleveland, I don’t like their fans at all. Maybe I am just biased from watching them cheer after Anderson got injured for the Browns, but I could give a crap if they are cursed and the only thing keeping their basketball team there just left personally.

i guess lebron either didn't care about his legacy

or cared too much – either way the supposed best player in basketball doesn’t have to go elsewhere to try and win championships with other all-stars. i think he just dropped on the all-time list, but wade made out.

yeah...not going to do that though.

i trolled a brewers blog after that 2008 series where they hit drastic, disgusting, ninth inning home runs like 3 nights in a row to sweep a four game set that basically won them the division.

If I go to Vegas and bet my life savings on the Cavaliers winning an NBA title before Lebron James, and they inevitably don’t, do I get to sue Dan Gilbert for double my life savings?

-whole wheat buns (toasted)
-spicy mustard
-red leaf lettuce
-red tommato
-haas avacado
-sirloin meat
-three strips of bacon

wish I had taken a picture.
