it’s too bad this pujols guy drags our lineup down.

"We were men - flesh and blood - and we played baseball in the sunshine. We hit doubles off the wall, slid hard into second base. We had fights, and we made love. Every time I think about the Cards

I think about how offense has been okay even though the middle infield has been a black hole, I think about how we’re hanging in there okay with the injuries, I think about Pujols and Garcia and Waino, and I think…everything is going to be okay. I think about yesterday and I think — well, we have one TESS pretty much every year. That’s baseball.

And then I remember that we have Aaron Miles on our team.

And I get furious. And depressed. Furiously depressed.

It would help to get some of our guys back

Ludwick’s minor thingy has turned (of course) into a more serious thingy.

Penny’s minor thingy has turned (of course) into a more serious thingy.

Lohse has a crazy unprecedented arm injury.

Freese has a mysterious unhealing ankle.

We just need to get some of these key cogs healthy for the second half and that will help a lot. If we can get Suppan/Hawk out of the rotation and replace him with Penny and/or Lohse, get Stav/Jay/Winn out of the OF and replace them with Ludwick, get Felipe back into the MIF mix instead of having to play him at 3B…things will start to look up.

Maybe because he needed to get 5 outs in order to end the inning.

We had a double play if Greene doesn’t screw things up, then we just need one more out. The Rockies got one hit after the botched play, then another out, which should have been the third.

Good times.

But at the same time, we were right. Hitting that many home runs is like shooting 60% in basketball from the floor. You sure as hell aren’t going to keep it up, so you need to find other ways to score. In baseball, that means stringing hits together and manufacturing runs. In basketball, that can mean getting to the free throw line or forcing turnovers and scoring in transition.

If you give a man a fish, they say, he'll stink up the whole town. However, give said man a fishing rod and he'll poke your eye out.

One time, when I was in little league, the umpire came to the game drunk

I was to young to understand how to tell drunk people apart from normal people, but I do remember getting called out on strikes on a pitch that the catcher had to dive into the opposing batter’s box to catch. The chairman of our league caught up with this umpire after the game, and in a profanity-laced tirade, told him to never come back to our park again.

Somehow, I think that umpire would be an upgrade in this series.
