it’s too bad this pujols guy drags our lineup down.
"We were men - flesh and blood - and we played baseball in the sunshine. We hit doubles off the wall, slid hard into second base. We had fights, and we made love. We sang songs and prayed on Sundays. . . . We felt pain. And we felt joy. There was a lot wrong with the world. But we weren't sad, man. We had the times of our lives." Every time I think about the Cards
I think about how offense has been okay even though the middle infield has been a black hole, I think about how we’re hanging in there okay with the injuries, I think about Pujols and Garcia and Waino, and I think…everything is going to be okay. I think about yesterday and I think — well, we have one TESS pretty much every year. That’s baseball.
And then I remember that we have Aaron Miles on our team.
And I get furious. And depressed. Furiously depressed.

It would help to get some of our guys back
Ludwick’s minor thingy has turned (of course) into a more serious thingy.
Penny’s minor thingy has turned (of course) into a more serious thingy.
Lohse has a crazy unprecedented arm injury.
Freese has a mysterious unhealing ankle.
We just need to get some of these key cogs healthy for the second half and that will help a lot. If we can get Suppan/Hawk out of the rotation and replace him with Penny and/or Lohse, get Stav/Jay/Winn out of the OF and replace them with Ludwick, get Felipe back into the MIF mix instead of having to play him at 3B…things will start to look up.

No damage to speak of to Penny

it is raining
which it should have done last night before the 9th, noahesque rain
I may be in a rut, but at least I know where I'm going
Light Rain forecasted
According to the National Weather Service:
Now:
Scattered rain showers and a few thunderstorms will continue moving out of the foothills and across the urban corridor through 830 PM. Periods of moderate rain with visibilities reduced to a half mile or less will be possible. Shower activity from Boulder northward will shift southward by 830 PM.
Tonight:
Cloudy. Chance of rain showers and slight chance of thunderstorms in the evening…then a slight chance of rain showers after midnight. Lows 45 to 51. Chance of precipitation 30 percent.
Wow, thanks a bunch.
So it shouldn’t have that big of an effect on the game then. Cool beans.

THEY'RE TOO BUSY FOCUSING ON RIHANNA
Oh sorry, that’s the media line for why Matt Kemp had a rough first half.
Gotta love the media and their “focus” complaints.
I love that one
whenever the media is familiar with a player’s girlfriend the player apparently finds it impossible to concentrate on anything else, whereas if his girlfriend were unknown he can focus just fine.
This is what’s called projection.
I'd like clarification on how it works
I like to imagine that he’s in the box and he’s like: “I think that’s a breaking ball, okay yeah, I see the dot, it’s a slider, oh man it’s a hanger, I’m gonna crush th—RIHANNARIHANNARIHANNARIHANNA! Oh damn, I forgot to swing and now I have struck out. Bummer.”

is that had yesterday not exploded so harshly in our faces, we would all be really excited about the offense we have gotten that last few days.
You can't sit on a lead and run a few plays into the line and just kill the clock. You've got to throw the ball over the goddamn plate and give the other man his chance. That's why baseball is the greatest game of them all.

Maybe because he needed to get 5 outs in order to end the inning.
We had a double play if Greene doesn’t screw things up, then we just need one more out. The Rockies got one hit after the botched play, then another out, which should have been the third.
If you give a man a fish, they say, he'll stink up the whole town. However, give said man a fishing rod and he'll poke your eye out.
I didn't think they could, but it's possible if you assume the error play should've been a double play
in which case no runs would’ve scored
Much more likely to be just a GD error though.

Good times.
But at the same time, we were right. Hitting that many home runs is like shooting 60% in basketball from the floor. You sure as hell aren’t going to keep it up, so you need to find other ways to score. In baseball, that means stringing hits together and manufacturing runs. In basketball, that can mean getting to the free throw line or forcing turnovers and scoring in transition.

One time, when I was in little league, the umpire came to the game drunk
I was to young to understand how to tell drunk people apart from normal people, but I do remember getting called out on strikes on a pitch that the catcher had to dive into the opposing batter’s box to catch. The chairman of our league caught up with this umpire after the game, and in a profanity-laced tirade, told him to never come back to our park again.
Somehow, I think that umpire would be an upgrade in this series.
probably
i was the manager for the freshman baseball team when i was a freshman, and there was one umpire – one ump – at a game. i remember him telling us that he was hung over, but we won the game, so i was cool with it.
