the benefit from hitting the pitcher 8th is marginal over the course of a season.

b/c the same reason everybody cites batting average and pitcher W-L records
cause it’s been done that way for so long that everybody is uncomfortable doing it any other way, unless they’ve got the stature of a guy like La Russa.
Ned Yost was doing it for a while when he managed the Brewers, and I think there have been some other managers that have tinkered it with it occasionally.

The Cards have now scored 2 runs in their last 24 innings. if this were an isolated case no big deal. but they’ve been pulling this crap all year. All the possible trade talk is about pitching; sorry you have to score some runs too.

I think as fans we make too much out of wanting to win. Athletes could find a job where they’re happy and want to stay there just like all of us. Sure we may be part of a more successful company somewhere else, but if we’re happy at the current job why change?

I think he should throw overhand when he has time to think about it, but on bang-bang plays he should just worry about making a good play….if the throw comes out sidearm and it’s a good throw, it’s tough to argue with athleticism…..I mean, if he wasn’t so athletic he wouldn’t be playing short with a ~.550 OPS or whatever it is….
