1. We need to dump the DH. Like, right now. It's stupid, anyway
Hell yes! Smartest thing Bill Simmons has ever said! (there isn't a preview button on fanshots, my first one. Let's up this works.

I read that column, too.
While I agree with Simmons (and you, Evilfrog) on the DH, I think the more interesting aspect of the column is the latter half, dedicated to the length of games. I think he’s got some good ideas there.
And for the record, I don’t object to long baseball games, I object to slow-paced baseball games. There’s nothing wrong with a 4 hour game if it’s an entertaining slugfest or a 15-inning pitcher’s duel. What I hate, and what makes me turn the channel, is when every at bat seems like it’s current-day Jeff Suppan pitching to late-90’s Nomar Garciaparra.
If there's a petition to ban the DH I'll sign it.

It's dumber because
it happens every year.

wait, why is the DH a bad thing?
and that article is horribly wrong. i have never objected to the length of a sox/yanks game, I care just as much as i did before, I’m not concerned about steroids… so on. but yeah, about the DH…?
The DH is a bad thing
because it’s just WRONG!
It like playing chess with an extra queen.
It’s not how the game was intended to be played, it totally changes the strategy and takes up space on a roster that could be filled by a real player that can still play the game and earn his money.
How about a designated runner? Why not? Because it’s just WRONG!!
I could go on but it’s all been said…over and over and over…and will continue to be said.
why? Because it’s just WRONG!!

this seems like a facetious reply
in favor of the DH. but in case its not, “it’s just wrong” is not good reasoning. please give real reasons why there should be no DH. I’m asking because i would really love for the first time in my life to hear a good reason why. I’m all ears.

why should there be?
The game was designed to be play with 9 players not 10. The reason for the DH was so the AL could convince aging players to come and play for them. It’s a gimmick. It’s a gimmick that gives an unfair advantage to one league. It’s a gimmick that isn’t used as it was meant to. It’s a gimmick that limits the strategy of the game.
It should go.
this thread is all Aaron Mile's fault.
yeah but the problem with pitchers hitting
is that pitchers can’t hit. if they can’t hit, which we all agree is generally true, then why should they be hitting? pitchers today are so specialized in their craft that it’s gratuitous and risky to have them hit,
