couldn’t we dangle one of our relievers out there and see who bites?

Unalloyed joy!

I get to watch two Cards games on two nights, a rare treat for a West Coaster. Also 4:10 start, which allows lots of time to go out and celebrate a victory.

"They punched me a lot," Holliday said of the celebration [after his July 18 walk-off single]. "But they were good punches."

Whoops, not Santana tonight.

OT, but has anyone noticed how well Jimmy Edmonds is doing?

His BABIP is a little high, but he’s hitting line drives at a 28% (!) clip, so it’s not luck.

I’m glad to see him still doing so well.

I really, really hope...

we don’t bother with Stephen Drew.

First of all, he’s a Drew. Second, he’s well established as a 270/330/400 guy. Third, he’s not above average defensively. Fourth, he’ll cost $5-6 million next year and $8 million the year after.

If we’re going to ship away prospects we need someone who genuinely moves the needle, like Holliday or Oswalt.

I usually hate when people use the term "throw up" as a noun

As in, “ew, there’s throw up on me.” But this game is throw up.

Albert Pujols does not have "down" years. He has "~6 WAR" years.

may have been covered already,

but wrt rasmus sitting, i thought this was interesting. from goold:

NEW YORK — Manager Tony La Russa said there’s little more to Colby Rasmus’ ongoing funk than a young player learning, and that it’s still important to get Rasmus playing time even while Jon Jay has made it impossible to ignore his production.

“The way he’s going now, wherever you put him, he’s been a plus,” La Russa said of starting Jay in center and batting him No. 2. “He’s still earning his stripes. I don’t want to make any claims about playing time. We’re in a stretch … where the guys who give the best chance (play).”

Heh -- TCM is showing The Winning Team, the Alexander story.

It’s been fun seeing footage of all the old ballparks, some old Cards like Peanuts Lowry. Now it’s the famous WS against the Yanks, where the Cards were supposed to lose four straight to the Bronx Bombers. Reminded me of the “Tigers in 3” crap.

"They punched me a lot," Holliday said of the celebration [after his July 18 walk-off single]. "But they were good punches."

If he maintains his performance, he sure as hell deserves it.

A wOBA above .400 usually raises some eyes.

He was called up before Strasburg was

He’s putting up a .400+ wOBA at catcher. He’ll have played in 100+ games by the end of the year (if he doesn’t get injured).

he's not gonna keep it up

he’s a damn good hitter, but he’s not a .417 hitter. that .417 wOBA comes with a .381 BABIP on only 20% LD rate and 17% HR/FB

he’s currently only matched his career high MiL BABIP and that was over only 200 PAs. he’s probably going to be a special hitter, but he’s not as special right now as he looks
