see the morning thread... I think it's silly
We’d have to give up a lot, and we’ve already got the best rotation in the National League.. Pitching is NOT what this team is desperately needing. That being said: That would be one wicked rotation.

Let's have a repeat of his previous start vs. St. Louis.

I expect I’ll be able to get a fair amount done between Suppan pitches.
The thing about Ed Wade
is that generally when trading his best player, he goes after MLB ready talent:
-For Curt Schilling he got back Omar Daal, Travis Lee, Vicente Padilla, and Nelson Figueroa
- For Scott Rolen he got Placido Polanco, Mike Timlin, and Bud Smith
- For Brad Lidge he got Michael Bourn, Geoff Geary, and Mike Costanzo

some one have an answer to this.....
If the Phillies want to trade Werth to the Rays (or some other team) and get prospects, so they can then send those prospects to Houston to land Oswalt…..
Why can’t the Cards do the same with some team with Ludwick? I would say Ludwick = Werth
ok...Miller...or 2 months or Ludwick?
Becasue that is the reality if you Oswalt for Miller, Boog, Jay…..Ludwick is gone next season
Yeah. He does.
We all love Luddy, but his days of providing surplus value to the Cardinals are almost up
Of all sad words of tongue or pen; the saddest are these: 'It might have been!'
Well I wouldn't trade him for Oswalt
I think our frontline SPs are fine. But if we moved him for an upgrade at 2nd or SS with Jay and Craig platooning in right, I’d be okay with that
Of all sad words of tongue or pen; the saddest are these: 'It might have been!'
I have no projection for Miller
Get back to me when he is getting people out in AAA.
In the mean time I’ll keep our stud of an outfielder while we make a playoff run.
this thread is all Aaron Mile's fault.
I'd rather have a platoon with Jay/Craig in RF and be able to put Oswalt in my rotation....
and you don’t lose your best prospect this way….
Miller isn't irreplaceable
We can draft more pitchers, We can trade Ludwick for prospects in the off season. We can sign ludwick to one more year and get a draft pick back for him in Free Agency. We can left Lopez keep playing and have him hit the type A status. Then let him walk.
this thread is all Aaron Mile's fault.

There should be a performance...
floor below which contracts are nullified.
For example a starting pitcher like Suppan could have his contract nullified if he posts a 2 whip over 50 innings. That would make for a very exciting summer in a place like Milwaukee where there’s no other reason to pay attention. His teammates would fight like hell to get him his money, and the Brewers would have to run him out there every fifth day.

Losses normally don't bother me.
But what’s been painful the last couple days is the reason why we lost. It seemed like the Cards came out of the AS break focused on doing the little things right to lead to wins. Batting patiently and running up pitch counts, aggressive running, etc. Two days of first-pitch swings, sloppy defense, and zero effort base running.

On the upside, that puts him down to .302. This season’s pattern seems to be when he hits .300, he’ll get mad about his average and go on a tear.
I was gonna say the same thing....
Once his averages starts to dip down to .300 he gets it back to .310 within a few days. That seems to be his pattern this year. His average gets down to .298 or so, then everyone starts talking about what a bad season he is having. Then he has a 4, 5 game tear, his 3 homers and makes everyone feel stupid for doubting him.

yes, In his case, I would overlook the grungy thing

Can they please stop with
the “Suppan is unlucky” theme? I believe the guy is now at 36 innings, with a 4.75 ERA and a 1.78 WHIP. I just did a quick B-Ref search and there are 33 cases where a guy has that low an ERA with that high of a WHIP in that many innings. So either Suppan is one of the 33 craftiest pitchers in the last half century, or one of the 33 luckiest, depending on your point of view. At least by this measure.
Either way, he most certainly has not been unlucky, on the whole. And all you’re hearing from Al, Dan, Cal, Pat is poor Suppan. Pravda wouldn’t have had the balls to try to push that theme on the public.
i think they mean
with regard to his W/L
which is true. he’s pitched well enough to have at least one win
"Moneyball: It's kind of like communism."
twatter
I hate losing to the Cubs
I’m not gonna Suppan bash. He’s not a good pitcher. He can still pitch a few innings but there is no margin for error. If anything goes wrong (defense can’t find the ball ) he is toast. But out of respect for all he has done for the Cards in the past, ease up on the guy a little.
It’s not Soups fault, TLR has the gritty vet thing going.
I can understand the frustration. Watching PJ pitch after him, it was easy to see PJ pitches move around, etc. There at least might be some potential there.
But what really irks me!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even if Wainwright was pitching today the Cards still wouldn’t have won this game. They can score runs.
"I told myself from the very beginning: 'If he's going to throw a shutout, then he's going to tie,'" Wainwright said. "He was not going to beat me today."
they can, but don't too often
i suspect they are back to being shutout fully 10% of games played
I may be in a rut, but at least I know where I'm going
oops can=can't
thats what I meant anyway.
"I told myself from the very beginning: 'If he's going to throw a shutout, then he's going to tie,'" Wainwright said. "He was not going to beat me today."
are these guys getting complacent?

knowing tony
he’s gonna throw in the towel b/c it’s a lefty and hawks is on the mound. saving our best for national tv.
yeah, Jay is a lefty though.
I can’t think of anyone else that could possibly play right. There are only 12 position players right now. It would have to be one of the pitchers. Then TLR could have an all righty lineup.
Or Ludwick flies up from Memphis to Chicago tonight.

Brendan Ryan has 2 hits in July.

Colby Rasmus in July:
No HRs (as bad as hes been lately, still has hit .250 this month)

.288 so far in July, so I didnt count him as upward...

I wonder.
Could we deal a package including Shelby Miller for a package of Haren and Drew from the D-backs?
I am thinking something like Miller + Sanchez + McClellan + 1 minor prospect would at least make the D-backs consider it. Drew helps solidify the middle-infield (Felipe plays 3rd until Freese comes back, then takes over for Skippy, and that will hopefully make the front office DFA Miles), and Haren provides the innings-eater that we really need (With still great peripherals despite the horrible bullpen and Chase Field)
Am I not giving up enough for that kind of package from the Dbacks? I think it seems rather fair to me anyway.

I heard the Yankees are currently the front-runners for Haren
Supposedly they’re willing to part with Joba + prospects.
Don’t know if that’s been discussed around these parts yet.
Don't know why the D-backs would take Chamberlain at this point.
But yeah, if they offer Montero, the D-backs will be hard-pressed to turn that down.

bat changes are kind of fun to track
because it means they’re trying to break a spell, and they could be pressing. and all that other psychobabble stuff.
July 17, 2010. Brendan Ryan used an X-Bat with a brown handle and a natural barrel […] It’s rare to see a bat with the handle darker than the barrel. He broke the bat in his second plate appearance.
This after changing on June 26. There’s a few more, but I’m not going back that far.
and if it’s a reliever, you find out whose bat they’re borrowing. Frankie used a third different bat to not-swing.

I'm to the point where...
Miles = Skip. Miles has a discernible skill: he can hit the ball 140 feet over the outstretched glove of the second baseman once every five at bats. Once Freese comes back, there will be no excuse to see either of these clowns in the lineup.
Alternatively, we could buy low on Figgins. Yes!
