Nolasco
No chance he gets traded but….
I like the way you think.

So...
has Shelby Morris been shipped away yet?
"When I gave up a grand slam to Pete LaCock," Bob Gibson said later, "I knew it was time to quit."
last I heard "nothing imminent"
except WAshington taking an early 1-0 lead

I do not like any trade that involves Miller unless it's for Haren
This better mean Wilson and Cox are both close to signing.
sadly, neither can pitch

We should just take that money from Oswalt's 2010/2011,
and use 1/3 of it to sign Wilson and Cox, and use the rest this offseason to sign Jorge De La Rosa or Ted Lilly. Then the remainder can be used to open that VEB bar everyone used to talk about.
I'm one of those "I don't care how you killed the cow; just serve me a great steak" guys. If the results are logical and easy to understand, I'm pouring some A1 sauce on that formula and eating it. UZR qualifies. -Bill Simmons
Yes and yes....
VEB bar FTW. Can I call dibs on creating the drinks menu? SABRBOMBS FOR EVERYONE.

I actually have less problem with trading Shelby than I do with the money
Shelby is a few years away and a lot can happen in a few years. But Allen Craig would be gone for sure also. Berkman is probably gone after this year. Is is more about the money investment. But if this is the difference not just making the playoffs but at least getting back to the World Series. The additional profit would cover Oswalt. Seems like a big risk though
Just got wood

Oh, cool.
I’m glad he got more than one day with the club. His batting practice session yesterday was rained out.
I'm out of champagna. How about some 7-Up and Mad Dog 20/20?

I don't know why the Stros would want to do Oswalt for Morris.
Now Miller is something they should jump all over
Y'all thought U Were Haunted by Haren.....
just wait ’til u see the heartbreaking moans of angst if/when Shelby Miller turns into an ace for our divisional rival if this deal goes through…

Big McLargehuge!

i'd sell shelby for oswalt's salary
let the stros pay it. but if the team can afford oswalt and wants to hang on to shelby, that’s fine too. then we ship craig/salas, something like that, and pay roy ourselves and keep shelby.

Volquez has now walked the bases loaded with one out

Wow
I hope Volquez didn’t aggravate his arm.
Hopefully he just isn’t as good as I feared he would be. Not everyone can come back from surgery like Carp.

3 runs on 1 hit. Very efficient.

don't let that seeming efficiency fool you
they also had a few walks that just clogged up the basepaths, keeping their offense from moving along smoothly.

can't wait to see him come out of that pen
he’s fun to watch, for sure.
"Some days I feel like the hypotenuse in a love triangle; others as if my lucky number is pi."
I can't wait for him to come up either
1.96 K/BB in AAA this year, we should be able to score runs in bunches off of him.
by vivaelpujols on Jul 23, 2010 4:24 AM EDT up reply actions
i don't know how many bunches of runs we will score in one inning off him
"Some days I feel like the hypotenuse in a love triangle; others as if my lucky number is pi."
he did
did you see his first start? if you are just going on this performance, then i guess most every pitcher is washed up, since they all have them. especially coming back from long injury layoffs – it’s usually every other start gets them for awhile. hell, carp was healthy and sucked for two starts in a row.
"Some days I feel like the hypotenuse in a love triangle; others as if my lucky number is pi."
Either way it's ridiculous to expect anything of him
He was terrible in 2009 and has been terrible every year of his career outside of 2008 and is coming off injury and PED usage. To project him any better than you would any other lottery ticket is ridiculous.
He currently has 6 walks in 8 innings, so yeah, as good as new for Volquez.
by vivaelpujols on Jul 23, 2010 4:23 AM EDT up reply actions
he's been out a year and you are basing something on his first 2 games back?
he is apparently healthy, and the last time he was healthy he was good.

As much as having Roy Oswalt a cardinal makes me need a towel...
I keep thinking that we really don’t need another #1 starter. We really just need a #3 or 4 who can eat innings right? I would rather bolster the offense with a 2b or a SS

So can I ask a practical question?
If the Reds beat us and make the playoffs, do we root for them? I’m kind of thinking I will should it come to pass. The NL isn’t looking half bad this year.
by mattisnotfrench on Jul 22, 2010 1:41 PM EDT up reply actions
No. Their fans have been serious assholes, I'd rather root for whichever NL West team makes it through.

Fair enough. But really, are they any worse than Cubs or Astros fans?
Honestly, I don’t troll their blog but they don’t seem any worse than any other fanbase.

they ran their mouths with like 70 games to go and now they look stupid

oh, well, you are talking one or two people
hell, have you read some comments on other sites by veb’ers?
"Some days I feel like the hypotenuse in a love triangle; others as if my lucky number is pi."
eh
one guy’s profanity-laced rant about VEB, the Cardinals, the city of St. Louis, etc., got like 8 recs and many more expressions of support. I’d just hate rooting for a team that has such an angry SBN fanbase.
אנא טוני לא יותר ט.א.ס.ס
so you hate rooting for the cards?
i’ve never seen their members call each other names, or have any animosity at all toward one another. they are pretty civil and lighthearted compared to here.
"Some days I feel like the hypotenuse in a love triangle; others as if my lucky number is pi."
what have their fans done?
i’ve missed all this. is it new, historical, or what? i know their site well, and they are cool there. are you talking about at the games? do you live in cincy, by chance? otherwise, their fans have a reputation very similar to cardinal fans.
"Some days I feel like the hypotenuse in a love triangle; others as if my lucky number is pi."
what?
