it's a classic
the lowercase O in the overflow shows not TOO much attention to detail, but all in all, the title is effective and powerful

Howard's actually gotten a lot better at making contact this year
He might bat over .300. To bad he never walks anymore.
His walk rate isn't 'that' bad.
Just not quite as good as Phillies fans would like it to be, I’m sure.
Pujols has more homers than Howard has walks

I can't putt for jackshit.
Seriously, it’s like a sledgehammer in my hands. I drive the ball a long way and straight, and have pretty good iron play….but get near the green, and I turn a birdie put into a double bogey. Consistently.
i'm the same way with irons
i swear i can drive and putt well enough to play some really good golf
but take out the irons and i am utterly lost to the point it’s not even worth me playing golf

I actually tried putting with an old driver that I bent to 2-3 degrees.
I figured what the hell, I hit it straight as an arrow off the tee, maybe I can putt with it.
It worked about as well as any other putter – which is to say it didn’t.
I have an odd ability to dunk balls chipping/putting
It happens once a round where I hit a ball way too hard but it hits the hole dead center and goes in. I’m okay at putting otherwise and have my fair share of struggles on the green, but I get bullshit luck with it every round to the point that it’s not luck anymore.
Now about that whole not driving the ball into the trees thing.
Not afraid to nitpick
I had a round like that, where I managed to locate the pin/back of hole about 5 times, on balls hit way too hard.
Shot a 73. I’ve won cash in scrambles before, as I’m an excellent ball striker, just…. retardedly inconsistent on the greens, heh.
my goal is to get to scratch this summer

Think the primary knock on him, at any position, is his arm.
Jay is a good bit better in the outfield, with the ability to play center, as well.
Where is the scouting report on his arm?
I just read one on John Sickel’s site saying that he had a strong arm, his footwork was the issue at 3rd.

i dont see how Stavinoha could possibly take a spot away from Jay or Craig when he gets back....
Obviously, you never know with TLR but it would just seem so crazy. We have all been lobbying for the youngsters for weeks and its awesome to see the spark they have provided this team. Its too bad they couldn’t of been called up sooner. Jay should never of been sent down. Regardless, its good to have them up now but how long does it last? Like I said I don’t see how stav takes a roster spot no matter how much tony likes him, even if he is out of options. But does anyone think when ludwick comes back that there is anyway we could still keep craig and jay? I don’t see Winn going anywhere so it would mean 3 backup OFers, but maybe go with one less bullpen arm or send Miles down? Is that possible?

well we could possible keep
Jay and Craig but yea we would need to drop Miles and Greene once Freese returns and that would mean Lopez is the only backup IFer. No way Tony allows that. I think the most we can hope for is keeping either Craig or Jay and then keeping Greene instead of Miles. Its just a shame one of craig, jay has to go. I have no problem with Winn but I’d rather keep both the youngsters. Its gonna be a tough decision
by mick311 on Jul 19, 2010 10:08 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
Keeping Jay and Craig
would mean dropping Stav, Miles, and Winn.
I think having the infield of:
Pujols, Skip, Ryan, Freese
Lopez, Greene
is our best option going forwards, with
Holliday, Rasmus, Ludwick
Jay, Craig
As our outfield.
I’d aslo like to get Anderson up instead of LaRue as the backup Catcher, and actually use him more than once every other week.

I think Hawk pitched relatively well tonight, for what we need out of him.
He was a bit unlucky with balls in play, but settled down a bit after the first inning. I’d like to see him miss more bats, though, and would like to see how much of that was related to not using his (pretty effective) changeup well today.
6 effective innings of Hawk is more than we could ask for, actually. I would be okay with that for the rest of the season, as long as one of Lohse or Penny is back, healthy, and effective for playoffs.
John Kruk is a fucking moron
The Marlin’s ground out the sides in the first in like 7 pitches, and that “set the tone” for the Marlins. Fuck. It’s like this people have no knowledge of baseball.

I just don't get it
If you are looking at this from a scouting perspective, you see a guy with 20 power, 50 bat, 45 fielding, 40 arm and 50 speed—-and contrary to the cliche, he doesn’t work the count. That just doesn’t get you out of AA.
And his stats are terrible. There just isn’t a perspective from which Miles is a big league player.
Not afraid to nitpick
So, the SF GIants are looking for a Shortstop of the future.
They’re looking at Ryan Theriot, but I think I’ve convinced their fans that Aaron Miles is actually good, and they should give us Bumgardner or Sanchez for him. Sound good?

A lot of that is a stratospheric UZR...
he’s obviously not a +25 uzr/150 going forward. Realistically he’s good for 120 games, slightly above average defense, and a 270/340/480 line.
Fire La Russa!
I dunno
1) he looked awfully goddamn good on defense this year.
2) .271/.340/.492 is his career line, so that projection is not really going out on much of a limb.
3) He is, indeed, an injury risk, I’ll give you that. But he played 152 games in 08 & 139 in 09, which isn’t that bad….if he comes back in a week and plays the rest of the way he’s looking at ~130-135ish for this year….
Yeah...
he’s a good player. I certainly wouldn’t mind keeping him around for another season. I just think the team is desperate to add another arm. Hawksworth and Suppan suck and will suck forever, and Penny and Lohse should just be written off.
Fire La Russa!
But if you have to trade Greene, it flips
Greene is a pretty valuable asset I think.

ok so here's one I just proposed on twitter
Ludwick+greene to pads
pads send prospects +greene to marlins
cards get nolasco
bad trade?
they don't have to want to get rid of him, we just need to give them a good enough offer they can't refuse.
Dude was a 4 WAR player last year
and they control him through 2012. Would you take T Greene and scrubs for that?
Asshattery: it's an epidemic.
Also, Dave Concepcion.
scrubs and prospects are different
"...football games always make me thankful for two things:
1. Teams that pass the ball downfield.
2. Baseball games. "
--DanUpBaby
who said the pads wouldn't trade them some of their top prospects?
ludwick’s trade value is pretty high, I would expect fair compensation for him.
fair enough, but
Nolasco is young, been worth 8 WAR the last 2 years, and under control for the next 2. I think they would rather lock up his last couple arb years plus a few, than play the prospect game. I like Craig and Jay, don’t get me wrong, but we need Luddy for the stretch run.
Asshattery: it's an epidemic.
Also, Dave Concepcion.
And I think Nolasco would be good enough to make this team a sure fire lock for the playoffs.
I mean a rotation with nolasco+waino+carp+jaime would have to be WS contenders then.
Craig is an above average hitter himself, and how he reacts to starting is what it all comes down to. the last few years he was on fire in AAA and deserved a promotion.
In WAR how much better do you think Ludwick+Suppan would do than Nolasco+Craig?
I just don't see any way this trade
idea of yours manifests. You’re asking SD to give up at least 2 plus prospects for 1.5 years of RFL, plus take on the 8 mil he’s gonna make next year.
Asshattery: it's an epidemic.
Also, Dave Concepcion.
Right, but we were actively pursuing
Holiday with the intent of signing him to a long deal. I don’t hear SD pining for RFL!!!

Ubaldo with 4 earned runs or more – 4 starts, 1-0 (number of earned runs – 4, 4, 6, 7)
Wainwright with 4 earned runs or more – 3 starts, 0-3 (4, 4, 4)
Josh Johnson – 1 start (WOW!), 0-1 (4)
Halladay – 5 starts, 0-5 (4, 5, 5, 6, 6)
yeh…. i don’t even know what to say

maybe consider where they pitch
ubaldo and halladay in hitters parks, and waino and johnson in pitchers parks. so you have to make that adjustment, just like with hitters, because there may be some home/road splits to consider. what’s waino at home compared to on the road?

Sun Lite stadium is absolutely not a pitchers park
Anyway, just look at WAR on Baseball-Reference. It uses park adjusted Run Average and also adjust for team defense based on Total Zone:
1. Johnson (FLA) 5.2
2. Jimenez (COL) 4.7
3. Wainwright (STL) 4.5
Halladay (PHI) 4.5
5. Hudson (ATL) 3.6

i asked this the other day
didn’t you tell me that marlins park was slightly a pitcher’s park?
"Some days I feel like the hypotenuse in a love triangle; others as if my lucky number is pi."
I'm pretty sure I didn't
I must have said it’s slightly more of a pitchers park than Coors.

ok, i get everything you say confused i think
probably because it’s difficult to argue with you – you have too many numbers at your disposal. hey, but i give it my best shot. at least respect the effort.

Triple Crowns
I’m 100% certain Albert Pujols is going to win the batting Triple Crown.
I’m 72.3% certain Adam Wainwright is going to win the pitching Triple Crown.
Book it!
