saying that the key to his success is being around “two of the best pitchers in the Big Leagues like Adam Wainwright and Chris Carpenter”. As well as having, “the best catcher behind the plate, like Yadier Molina”

that dp may have changed things

if lopex fields it and gets an out at third or home, only one scores. but the other could have been earned if 2 outs hadn’t been recorded on one play. they may as well not even post it till the inning is over.

You are now blinking manually o.O

by hr on Jun 6, 2010 8:27 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't really understand either,

but I’ve always had the vague impression that the scorer is supposed to assume the most probable out (but not a double play) and then see how many runs would have scored if all subsequent batters do what they did in real life. By that logic in this case both would be earned if the scorer assumes a run scores on that out, they don’t get the double play, and then the sac is still good. But there’s so many different things that could have happened (Floppy could have gone home with it, he could have got the force at third so the sac fly isn’t in effect, etc.) that I don’t know how he/she would decide there.

I should point out in case it isn’t already clear that I’m probably full of shit here.

by BTown Birds fan on Jun 6, 2010 8:29 PM EDT up reply actions

i think its reasonable to assume

lopez wouldve gone home and gotten the lead runner, thus i can see unearned run

by averagejoe on Jun 6, 2010 8:30 PM EDT up reply actions

I think the assumption is that no run scores on the error play if it were an out

Then the sac is still an earned run, but the other run isn’t.

because Freese is hurt

so we have to move Luddy to 5 so that matt has some semblance of protection, so we don’t have a 2 hitter anymore. because skip’s not in the lineup, Flopex hits 1st, removing another possible second hitter, and Tony doesn’t trust Colby against lefties, so he’s out of the picture. Yadi’s too slow, and Miles just sucks.
