Fan Confidence Polls

If you'll look just to the left of this lede you might notice a new network-wide feature taking up residence beneath the all-seeing eye of The Birdo: The SB Nation St. Louis Fan Confidence Poll.

It's pretty self-explanatory; every week the polls open to take the pulse of each team's fandom, on a confidence scale of 0-100, and when they close a picture is taken for posterity of fan contentment and/or hysteria at that very moment. The same is now going on at sister-blogs Turf Show Times and St. Louis Game Time, if you've got multiple fandom moods to communicate.

The results of these polls will be tracked in beautiful sparkline form at SB Nation St. Louis

I felt like a 75 but voted 70

The poll is trending artificially pessimistic.

by BTown Birds fan on Jun 21, 2010 7:38 PM EDT up reply actions

i wonder if that just correlates at postive rates(over 50%)

I care so little about the Rams(20%) that I won’t even vote. So the lack of not caring votes is making the poll artificially optimistic. The people that would vote the lowest scores are so broken that they don’t even care to vote? Or do they vote 0% in an act of defiance?

Mmmmm data

I consider that quite confident. It’s simply too early in the season for a 100 vote, even if this looked like a team that couldn’t help but win the division. I still feel very strongly, though, that we are the front runners. So it’s also too early to panic still.

I will say that the intra-St. Louis cross-promotional SBN efforts are lost on a lot of Cards fans.

I like the Cards but having not grown up near St.Louis, I DGAF about other St. Louis teams.

In other news, does anyone know if Felipe Lopez has a provision in his contract that precludes the Cards from offering arbitration if he’s a Type A FA? He’s barely Type A now according to some estimates.

luckily i think it is somewhat based on this contract though

i think he can get 2 mil this year with incentives, so even if he got 50% raise it’d be 3 mil – more than skippy, but still not a bad deal for us. i still don’t get the 2 yrs for skip, unless having him under contract makes him easier to trade in the offseason to a team looking for a one-year stopgap. either that or they may as well trade descalso, who’ll be 25 next year.

A camp counselor was a fan of a rival team (don’t remember which team) and we were going on about each other’s team sucked. Then he goes, o by the way, Darryl Kile died yesterday. I totally thought he was still joking about how bad the team was and just crossed the line. Then when I got home and realized he wasn’t joking … man, that sucked. Pretty impressive that that team almost, and some say should have, made the WS that year. I remember that base hit by Lofton hurting almost as bad as the one by Womack the year before

that's what fangraphs or mlbtr or whoever is putting this out do

the elias system is secret so teams can’t manipulate it. they only put out the official list after the season. remember last year when the reverse-engineer made some kind of mistake in computing and had to say whoops my bad. since it’s based on two-years performance it’s not surprising that carp and waino are the top two, with timmeh being a little off thus far. well, i guess it is a little surprising considering halladay, although his numbers may not have been quite carp and waino numbers last year, unless they do some sort of league adjustment.

Rasmus can't hit lefties. He's not good at that..

He never has any success against them. They neutralize his power. He changes his approach and becomes less selective. Facing them messes up his swing. His confidence takes a beating. It causes him to go to steak n’ shake and get inguinal hernias.

sorry guys

vep couldn’t get a post up today, and I’m in the pacific time zone, where it’s tougher to adapt. Here’s a thread, featuring Tony La Russa’s smiling, pet-loving family.
