You are reading my mother's mind.

How can you watch it right at 8?
I have to wait til 8:20 so i can tivo through commercials. So, ten more minutes…
I have charter
I’ve never had a DVR so I don’t really know what I’m missing. I’m getting ready to move again and might get Uverse so that would fix the situation. I don’t watch much TV anyway.
Think; It's not illegal yet.
Please explain
because I’m having a tough time making the sell to my roommates.
Think; It's not illegal yet.
I've had it for ~ 18 months now
and have not had one problem with it. With Charter I was having to replace something or have something repaired about every three months. My Dish signal sucked, so it’s an upgrade over that. Internet speed is super, great DVRing options, and now that I can buy HBO ala carte, my only complaint about UVerse is the lack of MLB Net & Extra Innings. But I have hope.
Can your DVR be used with regular cable?
Someone gave me a Tivo, but I don’t want to pay for the service. And i don’t know how to hack it.
You can read it in any tone you like.
No MLB Net, though.
That’s one thing keeping me away so far.
I never would slip you Mickey! It is merely rhinoceros horn. This makes the champagna bubble.

Wow. Greene got down the line quick, almost pulled that one out. But did he come up limping? Stupid FSN jumping straight to commercials.
Ick.
Hope he isn’t hurt, that’d leave us awfully thin at MI for a week or so until Lopez is back.
I just shivered.
Be healthy, Greene. Be fucking healthy.
no mention whatsoever from Dan and Al after commercials
so maybe I’m just seeing things. Time to grab another beer.
i didn't see a comment last thread, but i enjoyed the gilbert grape-era dicaprio in the OP.

Hello all...
Was hotter than ____ when I got home from work today… Wife said I had to fix the cooler before I could watch the game… Looks like I missed a real pitching duel…
Had to change the water pump on my swamp cooler as the temps hit the 90’s here in the desert today… Summer is coming… Thank heavens for Walmart… The restock guy was filling the shelves when I got there and I got a new pump fresh out of the box…
Dang about the last proceedings..

Okay guys...I'm here finally...Let's play a hard 2.

Take out Freese mashing that last few weeks, this offense is terrible. We can not win a playoff series with the offense not taking pitches and being selective.

clearly the six hits and the several stinging line drives turned into outs predict that scoring a run is impossible.

Milt Thompson FTW!
but greene is terrible at batting
boog + jay > jay + greene

oh, right
because stav is an excellently better hitter than boog

wow...whats so hard here
boog has had BIG trouble with the strikeout (and basically hasnt been hitting at all so far)…we just needed contact to score the run from third with 1 out.

our best chance to score was with 1 out not ph'ing with 2 outs

In football, the object is for the quarterback, otherwise known as the field general, to be on target with his aerial assault, riddling the defense by hitting his recievers with deadly accuracy in spite of the blitz, even if he has to use the shotgun. With short bullet passes and long bombs, he marches his troops into enemy territory, balancing this aerial assault with a sustained ground attack that punches holes in the forward wall of the enemy's defensive line.

Hey Houston,
Suck it; you suck
On the plus side....
the Phillies actually have an offense…and a bad bullpen….this can’t go til 20…right?
You think the Mets had a good bullpen?
:D
In football, the object is for the quarterback, otherwise known as the field general, to be on target with his aerial assault, riddling the defense by hitting his recievers with deadly accuracy in spite of the blitz, even if he has to use the shotgun. With short bullet passes and long bombs, he marches his troops into enemy territory, balancing this aerial assault with a sustained ground attack that punches holes in the forward wall of the enemy's defensive line.
In baseball the object is to go home! And to be safe! "I hope I'll be safe at home!"
-George Carlin (RIP)

Actually…
by vivaelpujols on May 4, 2010 10:19 PM EDT up reply actions
I think we are forgetting about count leverage...
That 0-2 slider was pretty nasty, but the previous two Brendan was just anxious. None of which were strikes in a situation where contact is needed.
Im not gonna sit here and act like plate discipline doesnt matter in that situation because you are not going to be able to lift a fly ball on pitches low in the zone, where all 3 were located.
"So do you like 'Little Women'?"
"Yeah, I'm not too picky. Ya' know."
(usually, maybe Boog should have used that patented 'backspin')
"So do you like 'Little Women'?"
"Yeah, I'm not too picky. Ya' know."
The previous two were right on the corner ATG
Boog didn’t have to swing, but like I said, most guys are going to swing at those pitches. The average guy will swing at around 50% of them, meaning the Boog’s of the world will probably swing at around 75% of them. It wasn’t shockingly bad plate discipline.

I wasnt aware that gameday made balls and strike decisions...
And where does the situation come into play? When a player KNOWS he must make contact and KNOWS he needs to swing at pitches up in the zone to induce a fly ball and fails 3 times.
"So do you like 'Little Women'?"
"Yeah, I'm not too picky. Ya' know."
Gameday doesn't make ball or strike decisions
Gameday shows exactly where the ball was, and we can decide whether or not it was in the strike zone.
http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/tabdel_expanded.php?pitchSel=400058&game=gid_2010_05_04_slnmlb_phimlb_1/&s_type=&h_size=700&v_size=500
Pitch f/x shows both of them to be at around .9 and 1.6 h and v position respecitvely. .9 feet off the center of the plate and 1.6 feet off the ground. The average strike zone for RHH is around 1 feet off center and 1.5 feet off ground.
It was a borderline pitch.
by vivaelpujols on May 4, 2010 10:37 PM EDT up reply actions
gameday was broke if it said anything was close
boog has to take the first pitch to set up the at-bat. once it is called a ball then he needn’t swing at the second either, and it was a ball. boog has just been craptastic, and i can’t make excuses for him anymore.
"Some days I feel like the hypotenuse in a love triangle; others as if my lucky number is pi."

including the umpire. Feel free to go back and watch that at-bat and tell me the first two pitches were strikes.
He failed to adjust 3 times. Thats two times too many.
"So do you like 'Little Women'?"
"Yeah, I'm not too picky. Ya' know."
im not bother tbh that he swung and miss at three pitches
so much that he didn’t even look at a pitch… seriously before you go hacking, at least make sure he’s throwing strikes

Or have some statistics on why he should shut up
"So do you like 'Little Women'?"
"Yeah, I'm not too picky. Ya' know."
Again... ATG, the pitches were borderline
And, according to actual facts, hitter’s will swing at those pitches around 50% of the time. .5*.5*.5 = .125 odds that an average hitter will swing at all 3 of those pitches. For Boog, who we know has bad plate discipline, there was probably 20% odds that he swung at all of those pitches.
It was a bad at bat, it was well within the standard range of possiblities for him in a given at bat.

they were pretty much dirt balls
not sure if you saw them. no way they were going to be called strikes, especially tonite. gotta take at least the first and find out, especially when you are not real good at hitting
"Some days I feel like the hypotenuse in a love triangle; others as if my lucky number is pi."
I just rewatched them on MLB.tv
They weren’t dirt balls, they just had ridiculous movement on them. When they crossed the plate they were at the knees, which is why gameday has them as borderline.

yeah, my euphemism failed
those may as well have been dirtballs tonite, because they were not strikes.
"Some days I feel like the hypotenuse in a love triangle; others as if my lucky number is pi."
no, they were strikes because VEP's opinion
is solidified in all-knowing fact.
If Brendan Ryan wouldnt have swung at those pitches, they would have been called strikes.
No need to argue, cardball, no need.

No, they were strikes and brendan ryan
should have definitely swung at those. Right? Definitely should have swung at those ‘borderline’ strikes.
"So do you like 'Little Women'?"
"Yeah, I'm not too picky. Ya' know."
No, you're right about everything VEP
Brendan Ryan swung at good “borderline” pitches according to an automated system based on measurements that couldn’t possibly be wrong.
"So do you like 'Little Women'?"
"Yeah, I'm not too picky. Ya' know."
Brendan Ryan swung at two pitches that were called a strike about 20% of the time historically
In my definition, that’s borderline, especially considering the ridiculous drop those pitches had.
I never said the pitches were “good” to swing at, I said it was understandable that he swung at them.

They werent strikes...
but lets just relax and let VEP enlighten us as to why our opinions of a human judgment call is wrong according to what the strike zone is SUPPOSED to be.
"So do you like 'Little Women'?"
"Yeah, I'm not too picky. Ya' know."
I'm not saying where the strike zone is supposed to be
I’m saying where the pitches were actually thrown, and how likely they were to be a called strike based on actually data.
According to Pitch f/x data, the first pitch in the at bat to Ryan was 84.5 MPH, had -1.245 inches of horizontal movement and 2.298 inches of vertical movement, and was thrown .889 feet off the center of the plate and 1.652 feet off the ground.
According to Pitch f/x data from 2007 – 2009, pitches thrown from a RHP to a RHH on a 0-0 count with similar attributes were taken 184 times and called a strike 21% of the time. That sounds borderline to me, especially if Boog thought the pitch would be higher when it came out of his hand.
by vivaelpujols on May 5, 2010 12:22 AM EDT up reply actions
Oh, we're not arguing with you anymore.

Oh noes Mr. VEP, I cannot
I cannot refute anything you say. For you are right and I am wrong, and we who think they were not close to the strikezone are wrong and we should shut up.
"So do you like 'Little Women'?"
"Yeah, I'm not too picky. Ya' know."
Oh, but they were close to the strike zone
So close, that it’s a fact that of the 184 pitches thrown over the past 3 years that were similar to the first pitch thrown the Boog, over 20% of them were called a strike.
AGain, can you please refute that.

the only thing I can refute is your ability
to take a hint.
"So do you like 'Little Women'?"
"Yeah, I'm not too picky. Ya' know."
see to me
that’s were it becomes subjective
wheras you think 20% is borderline… i think that’s definitely a pitch to be taken…
i’ll take my chances with an 0-0 count and an 80% chance of getting the right call
idk to me if i have an 80% chance of it being a ball, then its not borderline….

After a second review per FSN
none of those pitches were even close to the strike zone. I dont care what gameday says, they were all low (first two were outside) and the last pitch almost had to be scooped out of the dirt.
That is all.
"So do you like 'Little Women'?"
"Yeah, I'm not too picky. Ya' know."
I never argued Boog should have swung
I argued that it was perfectly understandable that he did swing. That’s a pitch that is called a strike a non-trivial amount of the time, and has nasty, nasty movement so it looks like it’s coming in higher.
huh, good point that i didn't consider

Boog’s pitches were borderline strikes ATG. Lidge’s swing percentage on sliders in the strike zone is 61.5%. You figure the average hitter swings at the pitches Boog saw about 50% of the time.

This team needs a day off or something to get there composure back.
So our offensive slump from the end of last year has carried over into this year. Does this mean when it ends we will be slump-free into the playoffs? If this team just skates into the playoffs i don’t care (2006) as long as we come to play then.
I don't think they lost their composure
some of the hitters are slumping at the wrong time, and Tony keeps rotating in Memphis for inopportune moments (on offense and defense). the bullpen is the one I’m beginning to eye.
WE, on the other hand, are losing our composure.

We've pretty much been in cruise control all season
The offense isn’t on fire every game, but it doesn’t need to be because our starting pitching has been remarkable.
IMO, the offense has been as good as expected considering how well Freese and Rasmus have played.
it would be really nice if the offense all fired up at the same time
but the fact of the matter is, if Albert is in a mini-slump (and they’re almost all mini-slumps), Matt needs to fuckin’ pick it up. that’s his job. we should not be relying on the bottom part of the order to generate runs.

I really can't believe I'm going to use the *
as a source here, but Mcgwire gave the leg kick to Holliday, and also suggested he take it away.
McGwire originally suggested Holliday employ the leg kick that turned him from a gap hitter into a powerful slugger. He also prodded Holliday this offseason to lessen the kick into a stride, which threw off Holliday’s swing for the season’s first three months. Still, employing McGwire only helps St. Louis’ chances of retaining Holliday.

well, jay's fly ball would have looked good there rather than right after
bigger point is, tony should have pinch hit colby before schu with molina on second and no out. let colby get a hack, rather than IBB after schu made an out. someone suggested they would have walked colby in that spot too, to set up the double play, but that’s ludicrous, because they didn’t walk schu. there were no outs. so let’s entertain they walk colby, as suggested, then schu bunts them to second and third with one out now. do the phils really want that? are they going to IBB boog to load the bases? bottom line, colby should have batted before schu, and only tony knows why he didn’t. it wasn’t as if schu went up there and bunted.

in his “slump,” Pujols has batted .429 in 35 at-bats over 9 games, hitting safely in all of them. He has six RBIs and six runs to go with 5 doubles..

we mostly talk about it because
