Just to play devil's advocate

Adam is 3rd in ERA among Cardinals starters. He has fewer strikeouts than Carpenter. And prior to this evening, Carp has thrown more innings (by 1.0 IP).

Just sayin’. ;-)

If he comes up and is legitimately (peripheral wise and all) a top 2-3 pitcher in baseball

Which isn’t really that absurd of a premise given how good his stuff/command is, you’d probably have to go with him even if it’s only in 2/3 of the season. That’s probably not what we’d actually project, but it’s a possibility.

Has anybody pointed out

that Major League Baseball has been integrated longer than it was segregated?

Segregation began with the unofficial ban shortly after Moses Fleetwood Walker left the Syracuse team in 1888, and ended when Jackie Robinson broke in with the Dodgers in 1947. That’s 59 years.

It’s been 63 years since Robinson’s debut.

Top third looked like this….

Ryan 6-3
Rasmus HR
Wick 4U
AP BB
Lego BB

@ that point, Freese should have been up there taking. That had big inning written all over it. If Freese reaches there it’s a wide open game. Just saying….he was good but not dominant.

I meant inside
They had it without the ball graphic even touching the strikezone box.

Then again, Wainwright’s curve is so good when it lands in the strike zone that some umpires can’t even follow where it lands, so I guess I can’t really blame them.

I agree

Can you explain why though? I’m not trying to be a jackass, I just don’t legitimately understand how the technology works, I figured it would be pretty accurate.

But at least in this case, on the replays the pitch still looked enough inside to not even be questioned, and I figured the computer assessment would be pretty accurate as well.

That's what the Phillies said.

So they paid him 25 million instead.

In football, the object is for the quarterback, otherwise known as the field general, to be on target with his aerial assault, riddling the defense by hitting his recievers with deadly accuracy in spite of the blitz, even if he has to use the shotgun. With short bullet passes and long bombs, he marches his troops into enemy territory, balancing this aerial assault with a sustained ground attack that punches holes in the forward wall of the enemy's defensive line.

In baseball the object is to go home! And to be safe! "I hope I'll be safe at home!"

but they also mentioned pujols had half as many strikeouts at this point as he does now.

Comparison to Boog, who doesn’t produce much even when he does hit, is different than the stat that, while it’s still early, Pujols has struck out twice as much at this point in the season as he did last year.

And it’s not just him striking out, it’s that he’s swinging at a lot of pitches that, in the last almost decade, he hasn’t really swung at before.

Despite the poor end result

I’m going to say Skip going home on that was the correct call. If you think he had a better than ~30% chance to make it, with 2 outs, you have to do it. I’d say it was a better than 30% chance – just was a well executed relay, and they got him. Shit happens, tomorrow is another day.
