you kind of left yourself open there, so to speak
"Some days I feel like the hypotenuse in a love triangle; others as if my lucky number is pi."
That's what I told her.
"How depressing is it being you? Would you equate it to being a lifelong Cubs fan?"
Look at those numbers!
Adam is our best pitcher, in case you were wondering.
babip giveth... and babip taketh away
Just to play devil's advocate
Adam is 3rd in ERA among Cardinals starters. He has fewer strikeouts than Carpenter. And prior to this evening, Carp has thrown more innings (by 1.0 IP).
Just sayin’. ;-)
carp has one more start i think
"Some days I feel like the hypotenuse in a love triangle; others as if my lucky number is pi."
Details, Details
I also forgot to mention that Franklin has EIGHT more saves than Wainwright. Defeat that logic!
Good points abound...
this guy sucks
"The two most important things in life: good friends and a strong bullpen." - Bob Gibson
Not to mention
the only better curve in baseball so far has been Carp’s (at 8.7)
babip giveth... and babip taketh away
thats right, Carp and Waino have the two most valuable curveballs in the game
the way it should be
babip giveth... and babip taketh away
Dave Duncan
gurgles and foams at the mouth in the dugout.
Throw…more…sinkers…. gurgle.
So what does Garcia get guys out with?

my guess is 3-6 days from now your lifeless body will be dredged
from the Mississippi, your bloated head bearing a quizzical “Samsonite” imprint
We always suck against young pitchers we've never seen before . . .
Reverse jinx activated!
Yadi: The fastest of all the Molina brothers.
Okay, maybe it was the lead paint chips I ate as a kid
But it wasn’t until I was in my 30’s did I find out that the one twin could only become an animal and the other could only become a water-based thing-a-ma-gig. I never figured it out for myself.
Yadi: The fastest of all the Molina brothers.
Shame it's not Garcia vs. Leake

yeah, that would've been nice
a couple other pitchers could enter that race, too
"Some days I feel like the hypotenuse in a love triangle; others as if my lucky number is pi."
if (when) Strasberg and Stanton get called up
this will be an interesting ROY race
babip giveth... and babip taketh away
If he comes up and is legitimately (peripheral wise and all) a top 2-3 pitcher in baseball
Which isn’t really that absurd of a premise given how good his stuff/command is, you’d probably have to go with him even if it’s only in 2/3 of the season. That’s probably not what we’d actually project, but it’s a possibility.
Not afraid to nitpick
hanson finished third last year
coming up later and not with the strasburg hype, or possible dominance – strasburg could easily be a factor.
"Some days I feel like the hypotenuse in a love triangle; others as if my lucky number is pi."

Has anybody pointed out
that Major League Baseball has been integrated longer than it was segregated?
Segregation began with the unofficial ban shortly after Moses Fleetwood Walker left the Syracuse team in 1888, and ended when Jackie Robinson broke in with the Dodgers in 1947. That’s 59 years.
It’s been 63 years since Robinson’s debut.

“i love you” in dutch could be misconstrued as a threat if one didn’t understand the language

For some reason
when I read that I thought of this for the Canadians part.
"The two most important things in life: good friends and a strong bullpen." - Bob Gibson
Wow...
I forgot how bad those early 2000’s Reds unis were with the black shirts under the vests and red socks.
Brutal.
Can we just all agree that black should be avoided in uniforms?
I can’t think of any that have really worked out very well.
"The two most important things in life: good friends and a strong bullpen." - Bob Gibson
It works for the Rockies.
But it was part of their original color scheme. But in general, I agree.
You can read it in any tone you like.
They are rocking out purple as is...
Those things are already a disaster…
"The two most important things in life: good friends and a strong bullpen." - Bob Gibson
Oh I certainly don't find them to be appealing.
But at least it was part of the scheme. The Mets black hats and unis are stupid.
You can read it in any tone you like.
Black and orange work pretty well though
So I’ll give that color scheme a pass. Therefore kinda making my initial point somewhat invalid… I’m smart like that.
"The two most important things in life: good friends and a strong bullpen." - Bob Gibson
Besides, the Cardinals CURRENTLY have black on their unis.
BOB – around the bird’s eyes.

Agree they did not think of that back then when PC was Not an issue....
I stood where no man goes...
We are celebrating 1947 taKe a look at what the country was like then...

I guess you were making a joke and I missed it.

It's almost always a failure...
But you’re not even giving yourself a chance when you blatantly mismatch socks and undershirts.

"The two most important things in life: good friends and a strong bullpen." - Bob Gibson
I think the important distinction is...
whether or not it was there originally.
I don’t think he was saying it never works, just that it’s dumb to add black just for the sake of adding black.
In other news...
The Cubs lost again, and have fallen seven games below .500. If this goes on, does Pinella lose his job?

I say send Boog to AAA to fix his confidence (does he have options?), option Mather, bring up Miles. Give the MIF to Lopez and Miles for a week to see what happens. Skip can be a backup everything.

most likely
when Lopex comes back, Greene goes to Memphis. I don’t think they’re going to release Boog any time soon no matter how bad he’s been.

Franklin !#@$!&*%#
well, yeah
if he’s hitting .100 at the ASB he’ll get DFA’d. The shaky throws to 1st thing sounds unlikely, unless the wrist isn’t right in which case I’d expect he’d be put on the DL.
Ryan doesn't have options
But even still, he’s still been hitting better than Miles was last year. Miles shouldn’t even be getting AAA ABs.

"Some days I feel like the hypotenuse in a love triangle; others as if my lucky number is pi."
I thought he pitched decently
4 hits (2 2B, 1 HR) & 3 walks in 6 innings; 6 GO/7 FO.
Top third looked like this….
Ryan 6-3
Rasmus HR
Wick 4U
AP BB
Lego BB
@ that point, Freese should have been up there taking. That had big inning written all over it. If Freese reaches there it’s a wide open game. Just saying….he was good but not dominant.
right, he had 3 bb's
but that is deceiving, considering who they were to, and intentional or not. and he k’d anyone but albert on that one 3-2 pitch. he had excellent command.

but it was nasty. same pitch that got luddy. forkball or splitter – like penny’s when he’s throwing it good.
"Some days I feel like the hypotenuse in a love triangle; others as if my lucky number is pi."
I meant inside
Then again, Wainwright’s curve is so good when it lands in the strike zone that some umpires can’t even follow where it lands, so I guess I can’t really blame them.
I agree
Can you explain why though? I’m not trying to be a jackass, I just don’t legitimately understand how the technology works, I figured it would be pretty accurate.
But at least in this case, on the replays the pitch still looked enough inside to not even be questioned, and I figured the computer assessment would be pretty accurate as well.
vivaelpujols might be of more help.
Pitch f/x has a lot of cameras trained on the ball and they track it all the way. I have no clue if Fox Trax uses that technology or not.

That's what the Phillies said.
So they paid him 25 million instead.
In football, the object is for the quarterback, otherwise known as the field general, to be on target with his aerial assault, riddling the defense by hitting his recievers with deadly accuracy in spite of the blitz, even if he has to use the shotgun. With short bullet passes and long bombs, he marches his troops into enemy territory, balancing this aerial assault with a sustained ground attack that punches holes in the forward wall of the enemy's defensive line.
In baseball the object is to go home! And to be safe! "I hope I'll be safe at home!"

but they also mentioned pujols had half as many strikeouts at this point as he does now.
Comparison to Boog, who doesn’t produce much even when he does hit, is different than the stat that, while it’s still early, Pujols has struck out twice as much at this point in the season as he did last year.
And it’s not just him striking out, it’s that he’s swinging at a lot of pitches that, in the last almost decade, he hasn’t really swung at before.

Greene is fast.
I don’t think there would’ve been a play. I thought for sure we’d scored until I remembered it was Skip.
You can read it in any tone you like.
I knew it was gonna be close.
Mather smoked that ball. I thought they caught the break when it died at the wall. Would hate to see the campsite Hernandez could have set out if the ball bounces off the wall while he waited for Skip.

2. Sucks at IF defense
3. Can’t hit lefties,
4. Can’t hit for power
5. Can’t run

In fact...
Minute Maid is so short that I doubt he would have even been sent.
So that is literally the only NL ballpark in which the game isn’t tied or Colby doesn’t at least get to come up.
Just a fantastic time to get a clutch hit.
Of course.
At MMP, that ball might have hit the wall on the fly.
>Pitcher Change: Felipe Lopez replaces Ryan Franklin, batting 7th, replacing third baseman Felipe Lopez
my
internal basepaths cam had him rounding third as the lf picked the ball out of the corner, he must have just been halfway between second and third! Had no idea he was so slow. Good point on the short porch above

it was just way off-line. if it was on target, schu needn’t even slide.
"Some days I feel like the hypotenuse in a love triangle; others as if my lucky number is pi."
Despite the poor end result
I’m going to say Skip going home on that was the correct call. If you think he had a better than ~30% chance to make it, with 2 outs, you have to do it. I’d say it was a better than 30% chance – just was a well executed relay, and they got him. Shit happens, tomorrow is another day.
