I don't think we hate VEB

I personally have often stopped by this site, especially in the off season, for quality baseball information. I feel like VEB as well as RR does an excellent job of using advanced statistics to analyze baseball. Furthermore I feel like in your analysis your guys tend to be objective and overly bias towards the Cardinals. This is probably my favorite SBN blog to read outside of RR, we probably hate the Cardinals, but I don’t think we hate you.

We do get tired of TLR complaining about the quality of baseballs, but that is directed at TLR, and I am pretty sure we aren’t the only fanbase that dislikes him.

I hate Dusty Baker so goddamn much.

by justin007000 on May 15, 2010 4:45 AM EDT up reply actions

To be fair...

When you live in the middle of Cardinal country and you’re the fan of a losing team, and you constantly get that rubbed in your face, you tend to get a pretty strong dislike of that team. So, yeah, I hate the Cardinals. Nothing against VEB though.

That rule states the official scorer shall credit a pitcher with a save when such pitcher meets all four of the following conditions:

   1. He is the finishing pitcher in a game won by his team;
   2. He is not the winning pitcher;
   3. He is credited with at least ⅓ of an inning pitched; and
   4. He satisfies one of the following conditions:
         1. He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning
         2. He enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, at bat or on deck
         3. He pitches for at least three innings

I actually liked the move.

TLR has been burned before by running out of pinch hitters, and if Boggs gets the bunt down, then you have a couple of outs to bring the guy on second home. Do that, and then you can leave Boggs in to pitch to the RH batter leading off the 9th, with Reyes against the lefty, after which the whole inning looks more secure.

There’s some results mongering here.

Al Yellon, no longer on the Z-in-the-bullpen bandwagon:
Let’s start here — it’s time for the Zambrano-to-the-bullpen experiment to end. There, I said it. At the time it was done I thought it might work, to solidify a bullpen that couldn’t get anyone out. But after today, when Z himself could barely get anyone out and looked like he would rather be just about anywhere in the solar system other than the Wrigley Field mound, it’s time for Lou to declare this experiment over — even though Lou said in his postgame remarks that Z is going to remain the “eighth-inning guy”.

Really, Lou? Really? How’d today’s 8th inning work out for you?
I think Z got clobbered because he hates being the bullpen
…when you dont like what your doing you lose focus and passion and its pretty evident that Z has lost both.
by JB 23 on May 14, 2010 5:56 PM CDT
I think this is very plausible.
It shouldn’t necessarily be that way — but that’s human nature when you are put into a situation you don’t care for.
Think about your own work — have any of you been put in an assignment you didn’t want? Or get screwed out of one you DID? What was your attitude like then?
No different for $18 million a year athletes. They’re still people.
